I know this doesn't affect her kids, but she seems to be looking out for her circle more than her community, which makes me sad because I hoped she was going to be bring some rationality to the SB, and she just keeps being more of the same.

She's there for Yorktown and nobody else. She wants combined option "A", with the one planning unit excluded per Emma's request because it sends the fewest students to YHS, 10 fewer than option 3, and she wants to see a new option with even fewer students being sent to YHS.

The fewest kids and the fewest FRL kids.

In her first campaign, she only visited North Arlington neighborhoods. I hoped that was a mistake and that her changed behavior in the second campaign was a sign of a changed perspective.

I live in North Arlington (but my kids have yet to start K), and I find her behavior/attitude appalling. Does she really think that 10 kids will somehow result in the need for a trailer at Yorktown? They said that they could utilize the classrooms for 7 out of 7 periods instead of just 5. Seriously her attitude is reprehensible.

Thanks for getting involved early! (Sorry it's so disheartening.)

Totally shamelful that you are arguing to increase any poverty at Wakefield. Yes, we need to see Wakefield's overall FARMS number down at least 10%. Well, two percent now is a small step in the right direction. You guys are really acting despicably.

I don't know what they said exactly, but I can't imagine it was "let's increase poverty at Wakefield!!" Wasn't it simply "we'd like to stay at Washington-Lee"? Why is it so horrible that they'd like their children to stay at WL?

BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS TO MOVE.

Well since you feel so strongly about it, I certainly hope you are doing your part by sending any children you have to Wakefield.

Sure, but sending my one child to Wakefield is still going to mean we need to draw the boundaries so that ~199 other children accompany him. So I appreciate your suggestion but note that it solves less than 1 percent of the problem. Any other bright ideas?

Everyone needs to chill. I am not part of AF, but I understand why those parents are choosing to advocate for their kids. Just as all the S. Arlington parents strongly want AF to come join them. Just b/c they are advocating does not mean you should feel so free to insult them. Seriously, chill. If economically disadvantaged kids get the right to have Emma and others advocate for them to stay at WL, then why shouldn't the parents at AF be allowed to voice their opinions?

Well, for me, it's because I don't believe that economically advantaged kids face the same issues that disadvantaged kids do, so I choose to advocate more for the latter than the former. But I'm not trying to insult anyone (I'm not the PP who used the word despicable above). I do find it *ridiculous* when someone responds to a supporter of any particular option that the supporter should do their part by sending her children to Wakefield. That is in no way a solution to this problem but instead is an attempt to silence people. IMO.

Then go tutor and mentor them, because your advocating and whining isn't really helpful.

Is there anything "whining" about the post above? Do tell.

Are you aware that there is a significant difference between the few hours of tutoring and mentoring an individual can have and the experience of attending school, all day 180 days a year?

Right?!?
Yes, do stop advocating for less affluent kids. It's so annoying. Like, I don't want to be reminded that I'm being a selfish jerk. I'd like to just have my way all the time and not acknowledge it comes at the expense of children that already have a more difficult path in life. I really don't need to be bummed out by that.

And what are you doing for these hopeless souls? Aside from calling someone a selfish jerk for not agreeing with you, what do you do for them? Id guess very little, except insist AF kids need to go to WF. Again, where are the stats supporting that the white kids will pull up the less advantaged? Make sure you read it before you reference it. Remember, they mostly won't be in the classroom together.

Your point is what, that it's not worth doing? sounds like the experience at WF is enough then? Many well-wishers here who should spend less time on theses forums and more time helping their fellow helpless man.

This is just not true.

And it's your helpless soul that I'm worried about. Hope the apple falls pretty far from your tree.

Again with insults. I can only imagine how you're viewed by those around you. Prove your position. Big gap in scores at WL despite metrics you're insisting are necessary for the disadvantaged to succeed. The gap is too great by high school. I'm not rooting against them, just think you're perspective is full of ferry dust.

I think that you misunderstood. Kanninen advocated for scenario 1 because it sent the fewest number of students to YHS. Emma said she did not like that option because it included sending Arlington Mill to Wakefield. So Kanninen agreed to the compromise of excluding that one PU from being moved in scenario 1.
