APS Boundary tool--anyone get it to work yet?

This process is total overkill for a move that will affect 100 kids. Save your powder for the real redistricting in a couple of years.

It's not just 100 students - the numbers at W-L go up every year. These are the ones I picked and as you can see, the numbers going from W-L to either Wakefield or Yorktown go up every year.

Net Change in Student Population for 2017:

Yorktown 22 acceptable
Washington-Lee -101 acceptable
Wakefield 79 acceptable

Net Change in Student Population for 2018:

Yorktown 61 acceptable
Washington-Lee -203 acceptable
Wakefield 142 acceptable

Net Change in Student Population for 2019:

Yorktown 80 acceptable
Washington-Lee -296 acceptable
Wakefield 216 acceptable

Net Change in Student Population for 2020:

Yorktown 104 acceptable
Washington-Lee -391 acceptable
Wakefield 287 acceptable

No one is saying that it is.

Me too!

Nice! The county's GIS center does great work, too.

I expanded the Yorktown Island.
To Yorktown: 2315, 4815, 4818, 4828, 4829, 4899
To Wakefield: 1202, 4604, 4606, 4612, 4695.

This plan reduces the income disparity between the schools.

What is that? Haves and have less?

I bridged Yorktown Island and moved the eastern seats from W-L to Wakefield (4899, 4818, etc), but I wanted to keep the westernmost planning units at W-L, which is where we go (we're walking distance, so I assume that won't change).

It does seem like overkill for four years.

Of course not, but one easy shift is to connect the 'island' to the rest of the Yorktown zone.

I connected the Yorktown island and changed the units closest to Wakefield over to Wakefield. Didn't think through ES/MS boundaries though - that would have been helpful.

Mr. Trump, Build That Wall!

Absolutely cannot take those planning units along Columbia pike to Wakefield. That would exacerbate the segregation in this county and break up affordable housing neighborhoods.

This is not just about distance from schools. There are obligations to not divide the county along racial and socio economic lines. This is a small county, no one is too close or too far away.

And those poor families have expressed a desire to stay at WL, they were put there for purposes of diversity long ago- APS cannot not undone that desegregation.

This is pretty much what I did, and then I used the free response portion to say that I think we need a 4th comprehensive high school to keep up with the population growth.

Which units are these? The ones right near Wakefield or closer to the cemetery?

Also a good point to add. Can we submit more than once?
