They already have allowed something similar if you look at current trapped player rules for U15/17 ECNL showcases. So it really won’t be as big of a deal as you are making it to be. Also MLSN/ECNL both realize on the boys side they have a big problem with D1 colleges taking the older euro players over there 18 year old seniors. Don’t be surprised if US Soccer can take over college soccer if they strongly reduce the number of euro players and players from outside the US. They Will also have an age restriction I believe as well which will prevent the hold back issue as well. Have to graduate by 23. Lots will change over the next few years I hope you’re ready for it. Also my oldest is playing college soccer currently and her sister is a junior and on her way out, then youth soccer is all over for me as my youngest plays wrestling and baseball. I have no dog in this fight. Good luck! |

Well, here are actual rules for non MLSN1.
They don't even collect and verify all kids grades around here. Adding grade doesn't make any sense because it listed on tables from actual clubs around here. It's just one person's hopes and dreams. Fall 2026 - Spring 2027 U9 Aug 1, 2017 – July 31, 2018 U10 Aug 1, 2016 – July 31, 2017 U11 Aug 1, 2015 – July 31, 2016 U12 Aug 1, 2014 – July 31, 2015 U13 Aug 1, 2013 – July 31, 2014 U14 Aug 1, 2012 – July 31, 2013 U15 Aug 1, 2011 – July 31, 2012 U16 Aug 1, 2010 – July 31, 2011 U17 Aug 1, 2009 – July 31, 2010 U18 Aug 1, 2008 – July 31, 2009 U19 Aug 1, 2007 - July 31, 2008 |
I can only speak for us club side that each director would need to notify the area rep and let them know for showcase they are bringing players who are U18 age eligible but will be attending the U17 showcase. Could there be a numbers restriction per team maybe?? Like less than 3 as is typical for trapped player type rules currently. Will have to wait and see what they decide… I just know that they are considering this. |
Don’t forget they get the ability to do whatever they want for their showcases as well as where biobanding players will go as well. |
That's the thing, August players aren't going GY and don't make enough of the misaligned players to make it worth the squeeze. I won't say the upper age category has having anyone playing down, it's more just one large age range (an age range essentially after puberty) broken in grades or graduation year. |
Looks like you found the one "pushing" for a 36 month age gap starting rumors and he specifically pointed out that it wouldn't be a 36 month age range, it would be 23. So nobody was ever pushing for a 36 month age range, it was all just a lie by you. Good to have that settled. |
This makes sense because any player who’s actually able to play D1/2 would have no problem competing with older players. Also aligns better for college recruiting for showcases without effecting younger players. |
So unregulated biobanding |
It doesn't make sense at all and will cause problems all over the place. Rankings mean nothing when you can randomly bring down older players. |
Agree, makes a lot of sense and will help recruiting with a good challenge for the best players who will have to play with older players shortly anyway and will be judges against older transfers and foreign recruits while not causing other problems. |

Still 100% correct.

No it willl encourage parents to hold their kids back in school. Which is somthing nobody wants to be part of. Imagine paying your club for multiple years. Then surprise! We're going to replace your kid at showcases so an older player can look good playjng against younger players |
Smart idea for showcases. If you are going to have to compete across a wide age range in college, might as well show what you can do to recruiters. The best with thrive, those complaining about the change didn't have a real shot anyway. |

The winner.
