So yes there is the potential for an age difference of 23 months for U17 just like there will be for U19 as the current chart would be Aug 2007-July 2009. Al’s 23 months.

The rationale is at the highest level of youth competition this should not affect player ability as most players have reached growth spurts and such at this point.

It is strongly being considered to start next year and would just be involved within each league or tournament rule book.

Wont happen. Once college coaches get SY again with Aug birthdays playing with their grade in school teams they'll be happy.

Allowing play downs just creates an arms race for parents who will hold their kids back in school. Which means 16 year old Freshman and 20 year old Seniors.[/quote]

They already have allowed something similar if you look at current trapped player rules for U15/17 ECNL showcases. So it really won’t be as big of a deal as you are making it to be. Also MLSN/ECNL both realize on the boys side they have a big problem with D1 colleges taking the older euro players over there 18 year old seniors.

Don’t be surprised if US Soccer can take over college soccer if they strongly reduce the number of euro players and players from outside the US. They Will also have an age restriction I believe as well which will prevent the hold back issue as well. Have to graduate by 23.

Lots will change over the next few years I hope you’re ready for it.

Also my oldest is playing college soccer currently and her sister is a junior and on her way out, then youth soccer is all over for me as my youngest plays wrestling and baseball.
