3.5 lb gain over the course of 3 days w/o diet or exercise changing — explanation?

Anonymous
I weigh myself every morning, so I have a really good sense of my normal weight fluctuations. Over the course of the past 3 days I’ve incrementally gained a total of 3.5 lbs. No change in diet or exercise. This is well beyond my normal weight fluctuations, which are more like +/- a lb or so.

Other than my scale being off (which seems unlikely, as it’s been really consistent for years), what could the explanation be?

I’m on medication for a thyroid condition and know my thyroid levels are currently normal.

This happens to me with constipation after eating rice.

Excessive salt and or sugar resulting in water retention.

I have weighed myself daily for seven years. I have noticed patterns of excessive weight gain after eating:

Pasta
Pho
Cactus Cantina chips
More than the recommended serving of candy corn

It usually goes away after a day or so. Flushing with copious water seems to help (i.e. 2+ liters of water in one day).

Thanks! I’m reading that, counterintuitively, drinking more water can help flush out water weight. I’ll try that.

Doesn’t make any sense that one would gain 3.5 lbs in one day with no diet or exercise changes.

I actually did a google on this and apparently, it doesn't weigh all that much. I mean, I've never squated over a scale, but more than a pound or two would be rather extreme.

Sorry — 3.5 lbs over 3 days. Still — doesn’t make sense.

OP here. I’m on my period, but I normally don’t gain weight during it.

I guess that could change, though?

chill out. It is just water retention and totally normal.

Water retention can be caused by all sorts of things including"
constipation
too much salt
more carbs than usual
heavier exercise than usual
hormones
stress
just because...

3 lbs in 3 days isn't that hard to do.

Can you be honest with yourself in terms of your diet - those extra Halloween chocolates, heavy calorie laden Pumpkin lattes, cold-weather comfort foods...you've had NONE of that?
Combine that with water weight, period bloating, and hormones...don't be surprised.

And your age plays a factor.

OP here. I really haven’t had any of that.
