Alexandria Futsal ID

Any idea if there’s a plan in place after this announcement from alexandria city government? I’m assuming they were aware of this possibility and I’m hoping there’s a backup plan?

Indoor Sports Leagues Cancelled for 2021 Winter Season

The City will not offer indoor sports leagues for the 2021 winter season, in accordance with the Virginia Forward Phase Three guidelines and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All indoor leagues organized by the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) are cancelled, including youth and adult basketball, adult volleyball, youth sports affiliate Alexandria Soccer Association’s indoor futsal league, and social sport gymnasium rentals. Small group sports classes, which are lower risk activities, will continue and will follow federal, state, and local guidelines for the safety of participants and staff. For current program offerings, visit the RPCA web page.

Hopefully they have an outdoor backup plan. Its very negligent if they did not.

Negligent? Seriously?

Negligent? You might want to choose a different word. As for their plan I spoke to someone there and the initial plan was utilize the outdoor futsal courts and see how things play out.

I am hearing they would have one to two practices a week on turf and futsal courts (of which there aren’t that many). Similar to how they’re scrimmaging at the try outs.

I definitely meant negligent. To plan a season of sports and not have a backup plan or clause during covid ( after the spring fiasco for everyone) is completely negligent.

Sounds like they have a backup plan so it really doesn't matter at this point. Win for all.

Can you direct me to the source of the announcement? I'd like to share with my husband, and I know he will ask.

My child played travel futsal for them last year and enjoyed it, but if they are offering only one outdoor practice a week, I can't justify paying $700 plus (if I recall the amount correctly). Two practices, maybe. But not one.

Conveniently posted by the city right smack in the middle of election coverage. Not a coincidence.

So zoom Futsal? You are an idiot. In March/April, my Club (and every club in the dmv) had no back up plans because nobody was allowed to practice. Most Clubs (almost all) don’t even have Futsal league.

OK, but the expectations are higher given (1) the high probability there would be no indoor sports this winter, months ago, and (2) the fact that futsal is a big program at Alexandria (not the league itself, but top teams at Alexandria playing in regional and national tournaments, with some success). At the very least, I would assume their ID teams would continue practicing in the winter, and no, I don't mean Zoom futsal. There has been plenty of ink spilled on this in other threads. There are a number of outdoor futsal courts in Alexandria. I don't think the absence of a league would be negligent, but the absence of backup plans in light of all that would be surprising to those of us involved with this program.

It's Covid-19, dude. We are all going to be suffering disappointments until this thing blows by...and it's going to get worse in coming months. My children seem to be handling the disappointments better than you. Learn resiliency. I get you are disappointed, my kids love Futsal even more than outdoor soccer--but they watch and read the news and see what is going on at their schools and basketball league and were prepared for this. BTW, the basketball league was cancelled by the County. No basketball back-up plan.

My concern is that it will not be the same if they have the kids play on turf. Alexandria does have some futsal courts, but I am not sure it is enough to have all 3 teams per year use them.

It just seems very expensive for something that is not the same as the usual program. I wonder if they will offer any discount.

We will see if my child gets offered a spot, but I am not sure this will be right for us as planned within the constraints that ASA has. I'm not blaming ASA, just saying that I am not sure this is the right use of my money.
