HaHa - I'll be checking this post to see what happens. My son is identified as EL because we speak Spanish and English at home, so I'm wondering if he'll end up getting a spot????

My son is also ELL because he tested badly (DL tests are BS). I don't care - I find it funny people get concerned about tests run through DL with little kids.

I have told the school I won't accept the placement but curious to see if the call is from the school or DCPS.

This plan screws 90% of the kids who have some sense of stability with their current set up. But hey - then Kinders can test moderately better on reading. So its worth it (sarcasm).

I work at DCPS and I got an email saying I had until 5pm to turn down my spot (which I am).

^^ Do you work in a school or for DCPS main office?

I totally understand why you are turning down your spot. Stay safe.

I do wish their was science showing the littles don't get it or can't be transmitters of the virus but sadly we don't have that science.

But they do...just not as often or as badly

Do you mean you were offered an in-person spot for your child and turned it down?

Can you please advise where exactly can you look up if you child identifies as English learner? We speak another language at home, which we did note in her files when enrolling her in school last year, and also last year they made her go to a ELL office to pass some test to see if she needs ELL help, but she passed them well. So we don't really know if she's considered an English learner or not any more. We still speak solely our native (not English) language at home.

I will happily accept a spot if offered. And I believe the science is on the side of reopening elementary schools, especially in communities with as low case numbers as DC.

I hope you get one, pp. All kids should have the opportunity to go back in person, but at least this is a start.

If she passed the test she is not an ELL student.

So then how is it enough to identify as EL for the initial poster I quoted without the test? "My son is identified as EL because we speak Spanish and English at home"
