No, VYS A teams are now DA.

That's not true at all. Some VYS players may move into VDA, but we don't yet know where the A teams will play. My guess is they'll stay in VPL, which is unfortunate because they're overmatched in most age groups.

And even moreso now, if their best players are pulled into VDA

You all are insane, the VDA isn't just going to take from the same club the players are currently at. Remember DA is a magnet that reaches for rleveryone, I guarantee you the best players from Mclean above U12, Loudoun, Fairfax, Centerville, Falls Church, Annandale, etc. will tryout for a VDA slot and the VDA is under no obligation to take players from their own clubs.

I hope the guy that thinks Vienna A teams are now VDA was being sarcastic, since VDA has been having tryouts since January it is unlikely more than a token few from Vienna per age group would be accepted. By the way, a club's best player in an age group might seem mediocre in a VDA tryout if the only tryouts those players have ever been to are Vienna tryouts.

All true. In the long run, they might get a few more people trying out at the pre-DA age groups to get into the mix (common practice at DA and ECNL clubs), but still, only a couple of kids in each age group will go from a VYS team to VDA.

So it might all be a wash. A couple of players to the DA, a couple of players in VYS who wouldn't have been there before it became part of VDA.

I don't see how VYS joining VDA makes parents more willing to want to tryout for VDA and drive to Howison or Helliwig. If they didn't try out before, why would they tryout now?

Hellwig is NVSC fields, which is not in the VDA. They will have to drive to Nokesville/Gainesville however for the VSA fields, where 66 slims down and the traffic gets really brutal.

Or maybe Vienna will provide some more fields, which means some VSA families will have to make the long trek.

"getting" and "looking" are two different things ... if those talented girls want to compete at a higher level than Arlington currently offers, then they have to decide which level they want and go to a club that offers it ... there's no way another separate GDA will be offered in this area

The fields for VDA are:
Howison Park
James S Long Park
Word of Grace
Veterans Memorial Park

The fields for VDA are:
Howison Park - Woodbridge
James S Long Park - Gainesville
Word of Grace - Chantilly, off of Rr 28
Veterans Memorial Park - Woodbridge, next to river

Other than Word of Grace, those locations suck!

Are those locations worse than getting to RFK Stadium's practice fields for the D.C. United academy? Several Vienna kids have done that.

Granted, you might argue that the D.C. United coaches are better (hard to tell -- they change so frequently) or that on the girls' side, it'd be a lot easier to join the Spirit and practice at Reston or Gunston. That's fair enough.

But given all the people in the main travel soccer thread who proudly travel from Arlington to Loudoun or vice versa for basically the same level of programming they could get at home, this doesn't seem so bad.

I thought there was van pools for those kids. If the DC United academy practices are around the same times as club practices, then I there is no doubt the pro path is truly ONLY for the kids with rich parents that are able to take their son to the RFK stadium four days a week.

So what are the costs to VYS for VDA? Field space - already strapped for field space in the Vienna area.

Did anyone make it to the meeting about VDA, and if so, care to share info, as an email has not gone out yet....???
