So when are they going to make the big announcement? It could impact upcoming tryouts in the area if they get word out. |
Do you mean a 4th GDA in northern Virginia? Can't see that happening |
We hope everyone received the Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) Travel Tryout schedule last week and the promise of an exciting announcement, a "game-changer" for our club and all of our hard working players! We are very proud to inform you that VYS is joining the Virginia Development Academy (VDA), a partnership of several highly respected Northern Virginia clubs participating in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Governed by the United States Soccer Federation since 2007, the Development Academy is considered the top tier of youth soccer, embracing a training environment quintessential to player growth. Out of the 8,200 youth programs across the nation, only 150 clubs have been granted the unique opportunity to engage in this venture aimed to develop world-class players.
The VDA is a strong, established collaboration between Chantilly Youth Association (CYA), Prince William Soccer Inc. (PWSI), and Virginia Soccer Association (VSA) and the only Development Academy in Virginia to field both boys' (U12, U13, U14, 15 & U17) and girls' (U13/14, U15, U16/17 & U18/19) teams. VYS leadership feels this is the best possible next major step in the development pathway for our elite players. Academy Director Mike Cullina expressed that, "VDA was formed in 2015 as a landmark agreement for club collaboration in Northern Virginia. We are thrilled Vienna shares our vision for how clubs working with one another can grow the game and prepare our players for opportunities at all levels." Even more importantly, the program establishes a strong development foundation starting at the younger age groups and provides the education and resources critical to propelling all of our players to the next level. VYS is now part of an exclusive group of clubs able to offer the complete continuum of soccer competition that spans House, All-Stars and the Development Center onto Travel, Super Y, and now the Development Academy. Michel Vanderhart, Director of Coaching VYS, stated, "VYS is excited to join the VDA for the 2017/18 season. The VDA already has established a strong track record in terms of development and education for players and coaches in Northern Virginia. By sharing ideas and working together with like-minded coaching staffs of the VDA partner clubs our players and coaches at all levels of the game will stand to benefit tremendously." Town Hall Meeting: VYS recognizes that there may be questions as to what the VDA means for VYS and potentially your player(s). Therefore, VYS will host an information session on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 6:30pm to discuss the VDA. Date: May 4, 2017 Time: 6:30pm Location: INOVA Address: 8501 Arlington Blvd. Suite 200 Fairfax, VA 22001 |
Mike Cullina getting calls from "helpful" Vienna Board parents looking to help out VDA in "any way they can" in 3...2...1 |
You're years behind the curve. The current VYS board barely has time to be on the board. |
Who said Arlington was getting a girls DA? |
US Soccer maybe? http://www.ussoccerda.com/all-clubs |
What does this DA affiliation mean for kids on the teams? We are at another club but trying out for Vienna this year. Will the top teams still play in VPL? |
See above regarding the information session post |
Yes, Arlington is on the boys list, but not the girls. I think that was just someone speculating upthread. |
No, VYS A teams are now DA. |
No, VYS A teams are now DA. |
Basically this means nothing for kids at VYS this year. |
That's not true at all. Some VYS players may move into VDA, but we don't yet know where the A teams will play. My guess is they'll stay in VPL, which is unfortunate because they're overmatched in most age groups. |
And even moreso now, if their best players are pulled into VDA |
