VYS Soccer - better or worse?

Is VYS doing any All-Star Tournament this Spring? They are absent from the Father's Day All Star Tournament until ages U-14.

Shocker. Didn't do the Herndon All-Star tournament either. Rather stay home and whine that their kids aren't ready. Pathetic!

At least some age groups with VYS did do the Herndon All-Star Tournament in the Fall.

True. I was referring to the younger ages.

I think the U9 teams participated as U10

If someone else would run for VP of House, a lot of these things would change. They'd participate in All-Star tournaments, and they would actually get their teams properly seeded. (My team played a couple of remarkable games in the top division, but they were never going to win a game.) They might even get back in SFL.

But no one's willing to do it.

I agree that they need a new House VP.

Or just have your coach register your team for the tournament like every other soccer team in the nation, Rec or Travel. This IS NOT a club thing but a team thing. VYS is not keeping your team out of a tournament, you are by expecting the club to do everything for you. Collect your fees give the money to a manager or coach and have them register the team. This is not hard.

Huh? All-stars is absolutely a club thing. The club needs to establish the all-star teams, which are presumably made up with kids from various rec teams.

In reality, its up to a rec parent to step up and offer to coach the All-Stars team. We used to send 2 different teams, because we had parents volunteer to take it on. Without them, the club can't do anything.

Wrong, you couldn't be more wrong. Just register your team. Clubs put in multiple teams or just one team. It is just a Rec tournament, nothing more nothing less. The club doesn't need to hold tryouts. It doesn't have to be the "best" rec players the club has, but sit on your hands and complain that the club didn't do something that you could do yourself.

It would be tough to find a more dedicated person, or someone with the same high-level leadership and management skills, but I think some new ideas would be welcome if for no other reason than b/c the House participation numbers have trended down (in general) the last few seasons. There are many reasons for that, some beyond the control of VYS.

How did the DA layer affect travel placements this spring? Anyone have a sense?

. - I'm not sure they ever asked. My DD participated in the fall and loved the experience. Hadn't heard anything about All-Stars and was curious what was happening.

Yes, he is dedicated, but I disagree with your assessment of his leadership skills. He unilaterally makes decisions and is not open to making changes. I was a commissioner for 5 years, so I have a lot of experience with him.
