Mother of 2 from VERY prominent Richmond family arrested by FBI for child p@rn, exploitation, etc

Don't think people are looking for compassion, more trying to understand the factors that created her to become an abuser. Women sex abusers are far more uncommon, so this case is more interesting and complex. Was it combination of mental illness, possibly triggered by MS, coupled with her own history of sexual abuse? Was this the first time she engaged in this behavior or did she abuse children previously? Was she reliving abuse she experienced as a child? We don't know the answers to any of these questions.

I hope that as this case unfolds, we can learn more about what happened so that abusers like her can't harm vulnerable children.

I had a messed up childhood including csa. As a result, I have… ahem… “odd” fantasies. But I have worked hard my entire adulthood to rework my brain and not feed those fantasies.

I’m not surprised she sought out opportunities to work with children, and that she had an interest in helping abused children. She probably did actually want to help children, in her weird way.

But as for her actions, she had a choice. If she was abused, I get why she might be a sexual deviant. But end of the day, she had a choice. She gave in.

In this study, just 4.6% of abused children were found to become abusers as adults.

Another 2019 study finds similarly

Most victims do not become victimizers, but some do.

Even for a victimizer this behavior was so extreme, from the hypersexualtiy when younger, sex in a park to this. Her being a victim herself has not been ruled out and is entirely possible. It's not an excuse but a partial explainating. Hypersexuality is linked to csa, bipolar mania and MS can cause mania too, something I had not known. Posters who say they know the family on other platforms have said she was diagnosed with bipolar and depression, treatment with SSRIs can also trigger mania in some. None of that excuses anything she has done and I am glad she was caught and not let out.

I am sorry for your experiences, PP and wish you much healing.

I suspect that along with csa and mania she has sex and porn addiction, she was on a fetish website. Feeding the fantasies is exactly right, she chose to do so, over and over and to enact them. Others direct it inward and become sex workers or engage in extreme BDSM. Changing the patterns is a long term process.

For those who experienced csa by any trusted adult, this program has helped many with its literature and online or in person meetings. https://siawso.org/

She can be complex and bad at the same time, guys. It doesn't have to be black and white. It sounds like she was struggling with mental and physical health issues that exacerbating some underlying paraphilias. It's not an excuse.

For me personally, I need help explaining how a seemingly normal woman broke bad in such a serious manner. Additionally, sex offenders are often very normal people who lead very normal lives. Unpacking the complexities helps process what happened and prevent it in the future.

So stop being so incredibly defensive about it.

+1 Thank you.

Obviously neither of you read what she said and really consider she brought handcuffs and a silk robe for a fun Daddy's night for an 8 year old, or you're both sick. Abusers, whether victims or not, make the choice to abuse and there is never an excuse.

+100 who are those people even asking for compassion or empathy for her. Wake up and stop making excuses.

Understanding FACTS is not asking for compassion or empathy for her, that goes to the child victims.

Paraphilias are linked to abuse, to mania (bipolar or caused by other health conditions) and to porn and sex addiction. Knowing that allows interventions.

For the priest poster, a lot of them are recreating trauma they experienced too, it is compulsive for some. Not an excuse but a reality that needs to be acknowledged so it can be addressed. Some who are csa survivors do not have conscious memories until very late in life, it's complicated.

Porn and the normalizing of deviance and hypersexuality and to an extent, sex addiction just amplifies it all and minimizes red flags at times for too long.

It aggregates these types for the purpose above.

That said, spending a lot of time online engaging in rumination @ fetishes, deepening the neural pathways linking them to masturbation, acting them out in real life, etc, like any addictive behavior, requires more and more, further and further to get the same dopamine hit. As a society normalizing some paraphilias comes with risks. They tend to occur in clusters and crossing some lines may lead to crossing others.

Sometimes you just have to accept there is pure evil. There is no explanation.

No one is born pure evil.

But it was a sting operation. A kind of entrapment. Not monitoring actual details between two people without fake police involvement.

I should clarify. What I mean was the police aren't monitoring discussions other than their own. No one is just monitoring the websites.

They are but they can’t get into the private chats so that’s why they have to do it this way. I heard an FBI official say they shut down a predecessor website and it was a mistake because it just pushed these people onto other websites, and that then created more difficulties in identifying those and being in a position to start tracking again.

I don't think God creates pure evil. But you think what you want.
