Field hockey clubs feedback

The foreign players are on another level, just watching the Olympics, it was amazing to see their skill. The Netherlands FH team look so different in skill and physique than the US National team. So it makes sense that D1 schools recruit them, if they want a chance to win. My daughter went to an international FH camp and she said their best US players were like rec players in comparison and their practices were tough. I have been told that most schools try to recruit US first but by this time they start going international with their recruitment.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree. (Also it’s not just D1. It’s all divisions, even D3). I don’t doubt they’re better and agree then Dutch are incredible. But American players are being shut out and not given the chance to improve. And taking scholarship spots. And not as a fallback.

I completely agree. It is unfair. Although, I often wonder about the USAFH and their selection processes. This can lead to a lot of girls being not seen or given opportunities.

^ this
And not meeting the same academic standards, if any standards at all

State funded universities should not give scholarships to foreign or out of state students. Those tax dollars should stay in state. Roster spots are different and should be based on ability. Private schools should be allowed to do whatever they want to do.

I have heard they even have recruiting venues in Europe that US Schools go to find players. If this is true why do we keep paying so much for Line Up, Apex, college connection and Nexus if our girls are basically rec players
Anonymous
^truth. I feel like Apex and Super Sixty is for D3 recruiting even though D1 coaches are there. Great place for your DD to meet coaches but the turnover in general in head coaches is crazy high. LineUp, although a great concept, is a D1 money grab. Nexxus is for the most part legit but difficult if your DD isn’t from a big name club.

Even Nexus is hit and miss. My daughter has had some great experiences and some not so great.

We loved Nexus but it’s very political.

Nexus is a money grab. Top talent is known at day one and then we string the rest along to fund USA field Hockey. 90 percent of the people should not being sending their girls to NEXUS in hope of an Olympic style of training. No one gets feedback metrics of why you were chosen or not. Someone said it was political on here which is a nice way of saying it isn’t fair. With all that said some great talent is displayed and they do get a chance to play in JO and maybe beyond. Since we talked how the Dutch are so awesome why should a country of same population as the DMV dominate and get special treatment ment in our state universities. We get hammered in the Olympic Games so maybe we should developed our programs to narrow the gap. The girls in the Netherlands and other countries play for their clubs with pride and loyalty. In my experience we are looking for club to sell us the experience.

Going back to earlier posts loyalty was never mentioned. Europe people are devoted to an insane craziness for their clubs be it soccer or field hockey. We have a lot of cottage grown teams that are parent coach/ owned that can’t help but be bias. Many kids latter I have realized the club provides only the canvas and the art comes from the kids with parents help

I have heard from multiple folks that the uswnt selection camp is the true separator - those girls are on a different level.

FHCP is collecting/publishing minutes played by freshman this year by conference. It’s an interesting data point in the stronger conferences. Many US players who were standouts at their club are getting little playing time in college as freshman. However the international freshman are getting lots of playing time. There is less discrepancy in the lower ranked conferences. I think we will begin to see more and more international players at the lower ranked schools moving forward.

This didn’t surprise me, but many people I’ve talked with were surprised.

I FHCP (whatever that is) is collecting those minutes off the websites, they should not that in many cases, those numbers are completely wrong. I noticed this year in particular the software was way off. Yes, I noticed because I have a D1 player, who got a lot more playing time this year as a sophomore than a freshman, but many of her games the time recorded was way off, sometimes under, sometimes over, sometimes not showing at all. On her stats, the number showing is about 2/3 of her actual playing time for the season. I have noticed it is off with many players, so maybe take it with a grain of salt.

No one should be surprised as the power schools (and even some of the not) have a significant number of foreign players. USAFH can't get better if they continue to be ok with that, imo. Especially at the GK position where foreign players dominate (yes, there are Americans who are exceptions).

No, Americans are not the exceptions when it comes to GKs. The top GKs in the NCAA are all Americans, what are you talking about?

Calm down. We’re saying the same thing. There are. Few exceptional American GKs. But there are a LOT of foreign ones.

If the NCAA changes the funding like I have heard for field hockey scholarships then the game changer will be that U.S. will have to directly compete against the International girls for Roster spots. In this this blog International girls have been touted as amazing and on a different level. Schools that have deep pockets and desire to win will place as many as they can. Then the
max 100s will see where the compare against them. Now I see field hockey as a losing money sport for a college so many schools will still go get the girls willing to pay for their education and play. D3s will be for all the USA girls since they offer only merit aid and the prestige for playing for that school. D2 still too small to matter one way or the other.

I do think goalies in America have the best chance with dedicated training like the The Goalie trainer and also many girls coming from soccer or ice hockey . Most clubs it seems are not doing much for them so it is on parents to pay and make decisions on training required

Throwing this is also but many more colleges have good Lacrosse programs searching for mostly US talent. Many FH girls play both and if are athletic the transition is that far off. In the DMV one of the best Field Hockey player is actually a soccer star..

Different skill level (lower) for lacrosse plus college rosters are much larger, also way more injuries.
