Field hockey clubs feedback

This web site is a good resource:

Only 1 WW player listed (Long lsland U). A few Husel and a few Warhawks. But none of the DMV players listed made many/any of the top lists - Nexus Championship, Junior Olympics, USWNT Selection Camp, USWNT... Most of the girls going to ACC and Big 10 schools made several of these lists

There's one more 2026 from the WW who committed to Lafayette.

Reading these last few posts, I can only assume there is a poster with some sort of vendetta against Washington Wolves.

Just like Washington Wolves picked up a bunch of players this year. There are also years they lose players. This is typical of every club in the area. It is not unique to Washington Wolves.

Parents at every club complain about their own club. Parents complain their club doesn’t win enough or their child doesn’t play enough or their coach doesn’t communicate well or their child isn’t getting recruiting support etc. These things happen at every club. No club is perfect.

Some of the posters in this thread are downright rude. Be better.

It seems that the owner and the U16 coaches don’t really care or know how to develop the older girls. Something, that could have helped their development is allowing the girls to play up to build skill and confidence. She only played up her favorites, the same ones she helped get recruited. WW also do not go to enough tournaments or will have just one team with a deep bench. In the past years during indoor season, with the smaller indoor tournaments, there are a lot of girls ready to play and only one team will be registered. Some girls are left at home without explanation. A lack of tournament opportunities can be frustrating. We will see if the U16/19 qualify for NITs. Our club has indoor tournaments most every weekend and I was told that WW will only have one tournament this year for most of the girls. It does seem that there is less focus on the older girls and this may be why many of them leave for other clubs.

This sounds like lots of opinion and not a “true summary.”

This is a useful list, but just an FYI, there are some commits missing. You can also look at MAX Field Hockey as they, too, track commits. There is also an Instagram called fieldhockeycommitments that posts commits.

Yes thanks, they are all useful resources. I just like this one in particular because it highlights the various lists the athletes have made in order of ‘importance’. I have heard from multiple folks that the uswnt selection camp is the true separator - those girls are on a different level.

WW played a lot of indoor tournaments last year at Meadowbrook in MD. Sometimes their “A” team wore jerseys with their names on the back, other weekends (NITQs) they didn’t. Seems pretty shady but not surprised.

Everything written on this thread is an opinion, based on their experiences.

That's not true. My kid has been on the Wolves for several years--on both A and B teams at times, and at Meadowbrook last year--and no one has names on their Wolves jerseys. Maybe you're thinking of a different team?

FHCP is collecting/publishing minutes played by freshman this year by conference. It’s an interesting data point in the stronger conferences. Many US players who were standouts at their club are getting little playing time in college as freshman. However the international freshman are getting lots of playing time. There is less discrepancy in the lower ranked conferences. I think we will begin to see more and more international players at the lower ranked schools moving forward.

This didn’t surprise me, but many people I’ve talked with were surprised.

No one should be surprised as the power schools (and even some of the not) have a significant number of foreign players. USAFH can't get better if they continue to be ok with that, imo. Especially at the GK position where foreign players dominate (yes, there are Americans who are exceptions).

Several years ago there was a cap to the number of international players allowed. There was a pretty good discussion about international players and their impact on the US game in the Field Hockey Forum in FB. Pros and Cons.

Yeah, I'm sure there are some pro's. My kid's team has international players and they do elevate the game. But, when they are half or more of a team, then domestic players are just being shut out altogether at US colleges. Not ok, imo.
