So what kind of King will Charles be?

Anonymous
Kate would never be Queen Consort, she will just be Queen. Queen Consort is a new title that Elizabeth created as a compromise to Charles’ nonstop badgering for over a decade to make Camilla Queen. Elizabeth wanted her to stay with Princess after Charles took the thrown. Elizabeth never wanted Camilla to take a Queen title because Elizabeth always took positions that were best for sustaining the monarchy over her family’s wishes. She knew that there was still a sizable portion of the UK that loves Diana and see Camilla as the home wrecker, affair partner. No amount of PR rehabilitation or buying off the media will change this so best to avoid risking the monarchy just to make Camilla happy. Charles does not share his mothers devotion to the monarchy. He’s planning on dropping the consort title which is a stupid mistake.

The next mistake is allowing Camilla’s grandchildren to play a larger role in the coronation. They are breaking with tradition to include them in lieu of more traditional roles. This will occur in contrast to not including his blood grandchildren from Harry. It doesn’t matter whether Harry s popular or not. The visual of the affair partners grandkids front and center while two of Charles and Diana’s grandkids are excluded is ugly. This also won’t play well with the younger generation that already doesn’t support Charles. It looks like he’s making a big show of presenting his blended family while glaringly excluding the ones f mixed race,

There’s a reason why Charles and Camilla face protesters every time they go out in public.

Charles sucks.

Nobody knows what is actually going to happen at the coronation so I don't understand the speculation there.

To me, Kate seems harmless to actually fairly impressive. I don't see how there is much room for criticism there, and if there is, you may want to look inside yourself.

I'm still surprised that parliament doesn't compare the amount of tourism Versailles gets and the revenue that those visitors generate to the amount that Buckingham Palace gets and realize that they would be better off as a republic

The BRF is strongly aligned with conservative and right wing politics. The family’s association with racism, classism and privilege without merit is aligned with right wing populism. Charles is an odd duck being interested in the environment and lower income people. He’ll need to keep his mouth shut.

Would you be more impressed if she was fat? What an odd thing to fixate on.

DP : And what an odd thing for the PP — that this PP is responding to — to list as an accomplishment. I’ve wondered about Kate’s actual interest in Art History. The British Royal Family has a truly stellar art collection, as well as quite a few historically and architecturally meaningful buildings and grounds. I’m surprised that, at least as far as I know, Kate hasn’t publicly taken these areas up as an interest. In her place, I would totally feel like a kid in a candy shop, surrounded by centuries of paintings, furnishings, and significant interiors.

It's because she never gave a crap about art history. She was exactly like the British equivalent of a sorority girl who took an easy major at college because she was really trying to get an MRS degree.

There's a very old video, from like over a decade ago, of Kate Middleton timidly trotting behind the Queen when they went to look at a Faberge egg. And Miss Art History stuttered and looked on blankly throughout the viewing, with nothing interesting to say, no questions to ask, and certainly no real curiosity in the art piece.

Brit here. Kate graduated with a 2:1 Honours degree. While perfectly good and respectable, I know that the mums of DCUM would expect more from their own children. Kate's 2:1 degree is an Upper Second-Class Honours degree. It is good, but it isn't a First. And with the grade inflation that was becoming more common even when Kate was a student, her 2:1 signals to me that she's a perfectly competent, intelligent girl who works hard, but isn't really gifted or passionate about her field of study.
Yes. And she did nothing related to the subject after university. She spent like 10 years doing nothing while waiting for William to decide if he'd marry her. Not even a posh-kids's job at a high-end art gallery. Or humanitarian work with the UN, or support for causes that really mattered to her. Nope, she did nothing with her time as Waity Katie.

I agree with you that she's actually very smart - does anybody believe they just happened to bump into each other at St. Andrews and just happen to randomly fall in love? - but I guess she used her above-average brain to basically get a ring on her finger.

That's also why she's a perfectly inoffensive and polite royal, but she also has no causes that she's actually passionate about. She's handling her role as Princess with tact and intelligence, but no actual passion. She wants to ensure she gets to live in a palace, so she won't rock the boat and will do her duties politely. (Which makes her better than the nightmare woman from Montecito, I suppose.)

Wow. You really hate Kate. This perfectly nice mom of three who has not made a misstep in a very high profile position somehow gets under your skin so much you rant over and over about her and the best you can come up with is that she *may* not be as interested in art history as you would like? She did work by the way, before she married wills and I seem to remember an interview where she described how hurtful it was to have the press call her names like lazy Katie or waity Katie. All the Windsor brides get roasted by the press, she just didn’t moan on and on about it and seems to be doing well going the stiff upper lip route

You need some Xanax. Or therapy.

There was no hate in that previous post.

That’s what’s so odd about Kate’s fans. That incredibly mid woman (who is quite likely miserable after getting what she chased after for 10 years) is held up as some beacon of accomplishment. It’s bizarre. Truly.

Not holding her up as a beacon of accomplishment- whatever that is. She seems nice and does her job such as it is well. She maybe milquetoast for your taste but that’s her strength in this very old, very traditional family.

You are not very smart. The King's wife has ALWAYS been called the Queen Consort. It's the official name for the wife of the King - you call the Queen Consort "Queen Camilla" or "Queen Kate". Kate could never be Queen because the Queen is an inherited title. Kate will be Queen Consort.

The Queen was an exceptionally strong female leader, especially by the standards of her time...but since some PP wanted to compare her to Waity Katie, what DID Kate do with her education? You say she's better educated than the Queen...so what the f*** did she do with that degree from St. Andrews, then?

She was born with freedom and choice that the Queen didn't have, and enough money for a top-tier private school education her whole life. After Prince Wilkiam repeatedly dumped her, she couldn't get a job? She couldn't start a business? She couldn't take over her family's event planning business? She literally did NOTHING in between graduating from college and finally getting William to marry her.

And in between, he was dumping her to chase pretty blondes and taking frat-bro style boys only holidays, and she endured his cheating with the SAME fixes smile she has now...all because she wants to bag the big prince.

Give me a break. The late Queen may have endured patriarchal bullsh** because of the times, but Kate had no excuse.

Kate had MORE opportunities than the Queen did, and did less with them.

What's a "mid woman"? Are we abbreviating maiden names now? Like mark woman? Lol
