I am a teacher in Mo.Co. so I would have preferred this amount of snow to fall on a Sunday to Monday and then get all week off. The drawback is that we will probably have school on the upcoming holidays like Presidents day. I have a toddler and I am enjoying being with her and DH but I think schools will open at least 2 days of this week.

I think the fed government will close on Monday.

Anyone remember the storm of February 2003? Started on a Saturday, maybe Sunday though...and I believe fed govt. was closed Monday and Tuesday with a noon opening on Wednesday. I remember my office, where I worked then, NEVER closed but they had to close because metro was not operating.

This seems similar in terms of amount, but I could be wrong.

I was living in Dupont Circle at the time, and I remember the Safeway had to close because they ran out of money.

Chances = zero And, since we are supp'd to get another 4-6 inches Tuesday, my bet is you'll be lucky to have school by Thursday or Friday.

nothing will be open on Monday. Feds will be closed. Metro *might* open above ground, but I think we're looking at multiple days of roads that are not fully open.

My guess is MoCo (where I am, so I am familiar with their patterns) will be closed through Wednesday at least.

If Metro is open, Feds will open, with liberal leave, Tuesday and Wednesday, and probably fully open Thursday.

Even if roads are passable, traffic will be a mess, because the roads won't be open enough to sustain the full load of people who want to get somewhere.

I am a teacher in Fairfax Co. and I wouldn't be surprised if we are out all week. Best case scenerio is we are back at school by Thursday.

Wow - I'm the OP and thought school was 50/50 for Monday and would definitely happen Tuesday - looks like I was wrong!
