Fenty's saying that DC gov is making every effort to have things up and running by Monday. In my neighborhood the streets have already been plowed, even a lot of the secondary residential streets. There's a significant number of people out and about and a few cars on the road. I think it may be possible for dcps to open on Monday. |
I am in Logan Circle and other than 14th and U Sts, no streets from U south to the circle around 13th, 14th, 15th are passable by car as of 6 pm. There is an elementary school around the corner from us and unless Fenty brings in a militia, no one will be able to get there by Monday. They will be lucky to have the main streets passable by car and then there's zero parking. |
DC will open ASAP so that the poor kids get fed. Remember, FARM kids get breakfast. |
Another NW DC resident, living on a so-called "snow emergency route." While the police were ticketing on Friday around 4pm, I don't think a snow plow has been by since, oh, last night at some point. No way will the schools or Feds be open on Monday. |
PP, you seem like an AMAZING nanny. I've heard of some nannies trying *not* to show up *before* the snow even begins to fall! In the case of one friend: No exigent circumstances on behalf of the nanny (except maybe wanting to go to nanny's boyfriend's house!). Yes, exigent circumstances on behalf of the mom (serious medical issues/hard to schedule appointments that the mom does not discuss with the p/t nanny, rightfully so). Just cruel. I hope the mom gets the help she needs, she has little ones ![]() Anyway, just read your post and wanted to say thank you to PP on behalf of nice moms everywhere, to responsible nannies everywhere. |
The news said secondary roads may not see a plow until Mon. or Tues. We'll be out until Weds. at least. Unless this Tues. night thing brings more. . . |
Well, the family I work for treats me in kind-MB gave me Friday off even though I was willing to come in in the morning and they are generally very good to me and appreciative of my work so I treat them the same. It's really a partnership. |
My husband is outside right now shoveling the STREET! Just in case Fenty and Rhee decide to open schools on Monday, and I have to report to work. |
DC may be back to school a little sooner. I can say in MoCo it would be Wednesday at the earliest. The kicker is it has to be the whole county and that buses could operate safely. Some places in the county had 28 inches of snow! At this point, we are wondering HOW they plow the neighborhood streets that have not seen a plow where we live. I mean, it is two feet of solid, heavy snow. Where does it go and how does a vehicle even push that kind of snow along? Best case scenario, the plow comes thru at some point on Monday. And then we have the potential snow on Tuesday. Hmmm, maybe the people in Arlington weren't so crazy when they said prepare to shelter in place for 3-5 days. |
FCPS closed tomorrow. |
HoCo closed tomorrow. |
MoCo closed Monday and Tuesday. |
I don't think my street in Silver Spring will ever be plowed out. Especially with the Tuesday storm coming in... it's going to be a long week. |
City of Alexandria closed Monday. |
