There is NO WAY most areas will have this much snow cleared by at least Wednesday, Thursday is more realistic. Late start on Friday, maybe, and it'll be a fiasco. That's my guess. DC might open a bit sooner. |
By MOnday morning, I think you could probably make it assuming you can get to the main road and off the main road to Bethesda location. Does your employer have power? It might take quite a long time to get there. |
There wil be no school all week, but all the courts will be open. Federal gvt will open Wed |
Really on the courts? I worked for the DC courts at one point, and they closed at the drop of a hat. |
They don't have power and when I spoke with them a couple hours ago, they said they were trying to make it a nearby hotel. Either way, they're going to need my help. I really need to get there on Monday. Maybe I should consider public transportation. I think I could get close enough if not actually 'there' and walk the rest of the way. I'm worried about them (especially with no power if they can't get out). One year old is just getting over an ear infection. |
pp, you sound like such a nice nanny. |
yup, pp. you do sound like a nice nanny. just remember, their personnel crisis is not a reason to sacrifice your safety. if you do go on monday, you might want to talk to them about a shorter day so you can do your traveling in the daylight. |
Loudon county schools are closed Monday and Tuesday now. |
Ditto 15:10, just got notice that Loudoun County schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday. With snow coming midweek, I'd bet we'll be out all week. |
In MCPS, we are here to serve! If schools are open, I will do what it takes to be at my post, on time, with a big, shiny grin on my face! (Tho I admit, I love snow days, too. ![]() |
I know, I know, you're right, but they've been very flexible with me and I'm not really thinking about getting home, more about getting there. I mean, if I can get there, I can get home, can't I? As far as a shorter day, I know they would work with me on this or else I wouldn't be posting in the first place. I'm just thinking about two working parents who have been stuck in the house (or hotel room) with a three year old and a just getting over sickness one year old when I've been home for three days with no children. I'm not trying to be a martyr here, but again, I can't help but worry about "my" family. |
Just saw on the news that a St Mary's county Elementary school partially collapsed. This is more than being concerned about school buses driving in the snow, it's really way more serious than that. |
I said earlier I thought MoCo would be closed through Wednesday. I'm going to revise that and say closed all week.
Because we live somewhere with very good plowing, our tiny street has been plowed. One lane. I've never seen us not plowed fully, but there's nowhere for the snow to go. DH had to shovel half the street so we can back our car out. And if that's a tiny side street, I imagine the main roads are bad too. And with temps not getting above freezing until late in the week, nothing's going to melt. Hopefully no more schools will collapse. Obviously that's the worst case, but at least if it happens now, no one's inside. |
you don't think dc schools will be open... |
I certainly hope not. I am a DCPS teacher and I am absolutely sure that my street in Arlington will not be plowed EVER. One of the reasons Rhee doesn't close schools is because most of the children walk, but I think teachers will have a hard time getting there.
Although, a memo was sent out on Friday saying that custodians were essential personnel and they were expected to be at work on Saturday snow blowing the school walkways. I don't know. I guess it depends on how effective they were at doing there jobs. |
