TIPPING TIPPING TIPPING

I have no problem with tipping, but why do we have to tip even when we there to pick up the food?

I went to food court yesterday, they wanted tip. WHY?

I will tip my uber eats driver 20% etc, but I don't understand why we have to tip for curbside pick up or just take out. WHY do we have to tip 20% ?

It doesn’t cost them anything to criticize you on FB or DCUM. You will get some beating here too soon enough. IRL they are not any better

If it's a restaurant, you should tip. Someone is packing up your food, and they are probably not being paid minimum wage. They rely on tips. At a fast causal place, no, you don't need to tip.

I don't tip for fast food or mall court food.
I only tip for pick up since corona started.

If it is somewhere I never would have tipped rating at (quick casual, fast good, etc) pre Covid then I do not tip now.

If it is a mainly sit down restaurant that is now also doing take out I tip 10% for my take out.

Because businesses are struggling OP and so are the employees. Normally people eat in more and do pick up less. The the server would know they are getting X amount on most dinner services. That is not a guarantee anymore so tip and be generous.
We tip $10 on take out now. Its the right thing to do, Our HHI is only $150k but we didnt lose our jobs and want to do right by small businesses and the people that work for them.

I understand your reasoning, but the restaurant should increase their prices so the person packing the food can be paid a high enough non-tip wage.

Only on DCUM can someone say their HHI is “only” $150k

I am the PP. I always feel poor on DCUM. I know that we are not, and are thankful we have jobs. But the majority on here make a lot more than we do. I was trying to make a point that even though we are not rich for this area we tip generously

You are rich for this area. DCUM is not the same as this area. Median HHI is $82K in DC.

Take out is usually packed by a hostess or manager. It's illegal not to pay them at least minimum wage.

I didn't used to tip in all instances pre-pandemic, but I do now.

Someone is risking their life to go into work and make my food so I can social distance. They 1000% deserve it. Same with grocery delivery.
