1,600 calories for weight loss?

I'm doing the FitnessPal app for calorie counting. I'm 50, 5'5', 155, and have about 15-20 lbs to lose, and it notes that this is the calorie count needed for that weight loss. However, I have plateaued for about 18 months (had previously lost 15 lbs over two years). Should I be at a much lower count? I'm walking or running two miles each day and do a Pilates mat routine twice a week for activity. I'm thinking I need to curb more to make the scale budge.

It depends on your metabolism. I have a messed up metabolism due to a thyroid disorder and need to go below 1000 calories to lose weight. It's disheartening.

Love down 100 calories for two weeks. If that doesn’t work 100 for two more. But don’t go crazy.

I’m 42, 5’6 and 140. I’m currently trying to lose 5-7lbs and my fitness app has me on 1,406 cals per day. I’m convinced covid has slowed my metabolism because the scale is not budging.

When you lost 15lbs did you recalculate the calories needed to lose weight? You probably did, but just in case you didn't I mention it. Calories needed to lose weight differ once you lose weight, you have to keep lowering it. So, if I want to lose 2 lbs per week, I have to eat 1200 calories per day. This is per my fitness pal. I can't do that, and I don't want to do that. So, I work out more so that I can eat more. Nor do I truly care to lose more weight.
Per tdeecalculator, I need about 2000 calories for maintenance. My basal metabolic rate is 1300 calories, but goes up to 2000 if I do moderate exercise. So give that calculator a try, maybe it can help.

I’m about your age and height. I need to lose a lot more than you. The last time I did MFP, I do not lose until I was at 1200 cal, which the app freaked out about. So I lied about how many calories I had. I was walking 3 mi a day.

With light exercise, 1-2 times per week, your basal metabolic rate is 1324 calories per day. Clearly 1500 calories is too many. Unless you exercise a lot and burn over 300 calories per day.

Do you eat sugar? Processed food? All calories are not equal...

For weight loss purposes, yes they are.

OP, that's way too high. I don't want to mess with my MFP settings to check, but is possible you have an error in your settings? I've lost about 100 pounds now and I'm using MFP for maintenance and I'm not even eating that many calories now. I was at 1200 baseline for a lot of my weight loss, which the app suggested for the fastest setting. I only tried to stick to that on no exercise days but even on vigorous exercise days I only added 100-200 calories..

Is anyone worried that if one's calorie intake is to low, one's body adjusts to that new low and losing weight ceases?
