No one made a big deal about it. It wasn’t in the presentation. She was asked about it in Q&A and did her best to answer honestly while acknowledging the uncertainty about timing. She never guaranteed it would happen by a particular time nor would anyone reasonable expect something this complicated to be locked down within three months of her taking over. If you think your DC is good enough and old enough that a pathway to a national league actually matters, much less by this year, there have been tryouts and ID sessions for several local NL and GA/MLSN teams this spring already and if it didn’t happen there it wouldn’t matter for you if there were a pathway announcement this March or not. |
It has nothing to do with my DC. People are calling these lies out for the good of the club. Pathway for a club is more than just access to a national pathway, it is about giving the club some legitimacy. GFR is turning into Sterling Soccer, Villareal or Mt. Vernon. Oh wait 2 out of 3 of those clubs actually have a national pathway because they know that it's about more than simply access to a pathway. It's about growth and legitimacy for the club. But keep on spouting your lies coach, board member or whoever you are cheerleader. Your next move will be to get these posts deleted again, right? |
What are you so upset about? How is this affecting you so much that it warrants pointed outbursts about "super enthusiastic" and "cheerleader" moms (only moms?)? What is wrong with moms (and dads) being "super enthusiastic" or "company cheerleaders" for their children and their clubs? It seems like that could contribute to the strength of the club. If there is eventually a pathway, great for the families that want a pathway. If there is no pathway now or ever, the kids that can play at national levels have many options around here. |
Because only a Karen could rant and repeat as much as you do. |
DP who has no dog in this fight. If a pathway is important to you, why not leave for a club that has one? I get being frustrated that the club you know and your/your kids have liked may not be the type you want it to be, but we do have a lot of choices around here. There are plenty of people who don't care about pathways and just want a community club where their kids can enjoy playing soccer. I think you just need to accept that if you want more than that, you need to go somewhere else. I am saying this as someone working through this same thing with my own child at a different club. Most families seem to be happy to stay put and enjoy the convenience, but mine wants to be on the best/highest level team they can make. So trying to find that without making our lives too crazy with driving all over. |
This just proves your focus on a pathway is misguided. Two out of those three clubs “actually have a national pathway” but it hasn’t done anything for their growth or legitimacy. I’d much rather be at a club like GFR that tops out at RL without a pathway but takes development seriously and where most of the RL teams are very competitive both in their division and against some “national level” teams at tournaments. If my DC wants to play in a “national level” league and is good enough to do so, I know perfectly well how to get that done. I don’t need some sham arrangement through the club holding my hand. Hell, on the girls side at least a good chunk of the girls on the RL teams could probably make one of the many NoVa GA teams if that’s what they wanted. And if it has nothing to do with your DC, why’s it so important to you? Bragging rights about your club? Let your kid go play soccer and stop trying to live vicariously through them. |
| Whatever happened last year? I thought GFR was suppose to join FVU. Instead FVU took all those lesser clubs. Did that have something to do with FVU getting rid of NM? |
IDK but it has been speculated elsewhere on this board that the former BRAVE people at FVU did not want the power sharing associated with bringing in another major partner to replace McLean. |
That doesn't make sense. Instead of bringing in GFR they brought in 4 other clubs? Sounds more like NM and RS blew that deal for the club. |
Why do you assume that GFR is somehow better than any of the other clubs? What are you basing that on, exactly? I see results that very much depend on age group and gender for all these clubs. |
You're right, no assumptions here. Just wondering why the GFR to FVU deal fell through last year. After that FVU scooped up the other 4. It seems like FVU was planning on GFR addition, but then NM released and no GFR. Seems weird is all, no? |
FVU scooped up all the other sucker clubs to ensure GFR had no partners and it worked. The other clubs got no “alliance” benefit and they iced GFR out of a pathway. |
None of those other additions have any real influence much less formal authority at FVU, so those smaller clubs must not have insisted on any. It has left MV with unchallenged control, for better or worse. I imagine that such an arrangement wouldn’t have been acceptable to NM, and rightly so. For a “pathway” in those terms, the juice would definitely not have been worth the squeeze. |
Thanks for the input NM. Is that why you were let go from FVU? |
How cute! You think making an ECNL team is based purely on merit and no politics? Wake up and smell the coffee. Arlington is full of Arlington RL kids, VDA full of VSA/PWSI RL feeders. GFR not having a pathway is absolutely a roadblock for many players. |
