Yes news value is rooted in what the audience wants to see - the old ‘if it bleeds it leads.’ The Today Show has a large audience, overlapping with the broadcast evening news audience. Those folks want to know about Samantha Guthrie’s mom. Also the broadcast news audience skews older and you can be sure older folks are following this story closely. It’s like a manifestation of their worst nightmare scenarios, they are weirdly fascinated. |
