| Mcps is imploding. In many ways. |
That's not offering a solution and you argued you needed a safer environment, were offered one and now are declining. People are upset as many of us would have been thrilled to have that option of a new school close by. We have to settle for old, run down schools that aren't going to be repaired any time soon. Wootton is getting regular updates. New bathrooms, new paint, etc. |
You can read about it here: https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/facilities/FCI/ |
Where are the rest of the schools? |
"the remaining schools and facilities to be assessed over the 2025–2026 school year. All reports will be completed and shared publicly by the end of Summer 2026." |
So, there could be a lot of schools much worse off. |
Yes, for those with the big "W" schools chip on their shoulder. |
What is your suggestion on how to handle it? |
| I think some of you may need a lesson on what “close by” means. Crown is not “close by” in regards to Wootton. Sure, it’s not very far but it’s “close by” the same way germantown is close to rockville or bethesda is close to gaithersburg. Meaning, sure-close enough where it’s not a big deal to go to an appointment, run an errand once in a while or meet a friend for a meal. But not close by in terms of going there twice a day 5 days a week. It’s 15-20 minutes away. That’s not “close by” for a school. |
What is the average HS commute across the county? |
I forgot about that one, but was trying to stick with 4. Maybe they’re one of those 4 but adding a little twist? The sad part is that there ARE other solutions beyond Option H - and that poster knows it - but won’t accept any of those solutions that doesn’t screw over Wootton. |
Not only that but it’s not our job to come up with solutions. We pay so much in taxes and it’s unbelievable that we even have schools in the condition they are in. H is so out of left field we are absolutely allowed to say no way but that shouldn’t mean we have to all come together as taxpayers/parents and troubleshoot solutions. That is ridiculous-it’s MCPS and county council’s job to fix these problems-not ours. The leaders in MCPS get paid excellent salaries-it’s not so crazy to think that they should be spending time coming up with other better options that don’t involve permanently displacing an entire community. |
But Option H allows MCPS and the county council to cover up their mistake in building Crown where they did. Then again, maybe it wasn’t a mistake if the “free” land came with a quid pro quo promised to Crown developers who could sell/rent the surrounding residential real estate at inflated prices by trading on the Wootton name? A PP noted that some of the apartments around Crown are advertising it as the “Home of the new Wootton”. Why would developers spend a lot of money on such advertising signage if there isn’t a deal in place that MCPS is trying to ram through (with help from the shills on this board)? |
This is 100% false. |
Wrong. I just drove by there to validate this. You can even seen the sign on Google Maps right outside the location of Sawyer Flats apartments. It says "Sawyer Flats - Wootton High School - Visit the LEASING OFFICE NEXT RIGHT". |
