Most real soccer people know that playing up even within an age group makes you better and by age 16 it largely shakes out with RAE.

You should play up if you can help the team compete and the club is okay with it. We have girls who play ECNL their age and also play boys instead of playing up.
Always think about development.

I would say U16/17 should goto showcases with your age group over playing up. That’s just my opinion.

They better be careful with that dual rostering. Ask PDA why they were DQ'd from the playoffs if you need more details.

I thought it was because they used too many DP? You can play up no problem just not on the same day?

PDA had too many dual rostered on MLSNext teams. Matchfit had too many discovery players (brought in a lot of Futbol Academy players for the last few league games)

MFA was called out first then they retailated by spilling the details on PDA. If you trust other random forums, there are many teams that do both all the time and now it was finally put in the spotlight.

So you can't play high school while playing MLS Next but you can play ECNL?

Good point

Did anyone see that MLS Next, amidst their other announcements, that MLS academy teams will all play up an age group?

So academies will now run U15 teams that play U16, U16 teams that play U17, and U18 teams that play U19.

Relevant because everyone here kept acting like P2P clubs couldnt' go SY while academies stayed BY becuase they were "all in the same league and playing by one set of rules"

Looks like they are very comfortable establishing different rules for their academies and other clubs.

I think you are missing the point. Nobody said they had to follow what other orgs do with the older kids - the argument, which I think has a fair bit of merit, is that if all the USYS and US club programs at the U12 and under level go SY then the RAE benefits that accrue differently, plus the odd jump/disruption with the age group changing at U13 to MLSN, makes it hard for MLSN to stay BY without the younger feeder teams in the same age construct.

So MLS Academy year up, MLS P2P SY?

I don’t think they’ve thought that far ahead. I think they just wanted academies involved in the older age groups after not having them with u17 last year. This is the second year in a row they’ve tinkered with the academy age groups. Seems reactionary rather than thoughtful.

So a MLSNext Grassroots U14 team playing against a MLSNext Academy U15 team?

It seems reasonable, as long as MLSNext Grassroots and Academy adopt the same SY system.

Notice the new denomination: Grassroots (attached to MLS Academies) and Academy (P2P).

Don't blow out BY last hope on P2P MLS. If MLS Academy plays one year up, then what biobinding players in P2P MLS do? Play 2 years down? That would be shameful.

I was chatting with boys director tonight at practice he seems very confident MLSN is staying BY. I have a daughter so don’t care what they decide to do just what I was told.
Said managing 6 BY teams won’t be a big deal.

GA is going SY.

I meant Homegrown, not Grassroots.

Sorry for the mistake.

I have no clue, I'm looking at this from a girls ECNL perspective. 2.11 is what got everyone in trouble

Also if it wasn't clear, the PDA girls were on MLSN boys teams.
