Did anyone see that MLS Next, amidst their other announcements, that MLS academy teams will all play up an age group? So academies will now run U15 teams that play U16, U16 teams that play U17, and U18 teams that play U19. Relevant because everyone here kept acting like P2P clubs couldnt' go SY while academies stayed BY becuase they were "all in the same league and playing by one set of rules" Looks like they are very comfortable establishing different rules for their academies and other clubs.
I think you are missing the point. Nobody said they had to follow what other orgs do with the older kids - the argument, which I think has a fair bit of merit, is that if all the USYS and US club programs at the U12 and under level go SY then the RAE benefits that accrue differently, plus the odd jump/disruption with the age group changing at U13 to MLSN, makes it hard for MLSN to stay BY without the younger feeder teams in the same age construct.
