OP doesn't actually want to fix her kid's problem she wants an excuse to restrict his food intake. |

People should start organizing “no food” events and sports and activities for kids. I think there are a lot more people who want that than some people may realize. Especially in areas with a larger percentage of immigrants because I guess it’s easier for us to see how insane it is here. It must be difficult to do things differently when you’re raised to think that kids need a processed snack every few minutes to survive.
Actually I think it’s a way for American parents to try to control their kids who have bad behavior. Give them a processed snack and they shut up for a few minutes. They never seem to realize that this is making their kids’ behavior even worse. |
Why do people move to America if they think it's full of slovenly idiots with poorly behaved children? |

We have met with several specialists and over the course of a year have identified what flares him up- wheat, dairy, eggs, corn, tomatoes, chocolate, nuts, preservatives, annatto, sorbitol, and some others. Basically anything that comes in a box or can triggers hives and then skin that looks like third degree burns on his neck, torso, legs, arms, back and cheeks.
I hope you are reading op, and I know you are here to complain about food at kid events, but I beg you to reread what you wrote. Think about it being somewhat objective and ask yourself, was all this coming from doctors that actually are into food sensitivities or from gastro and allergy specialists. All nuts? This all sounds like elimination and then saying it bothered him. Where is he eating sorbitol and preservatives to this degree? If you stay away from all of these, are flare-ups still happening? If yes, do you just add another food to the list of what he can't eat? I am guessing you are desperate to figure out what is causing these flare-ups and have gone from specialist to specialist who somehow told you, well stay away from this and this. This is like when I was looking for answers and nobody figured out it was Lyme. I was put on prednisone, allergy meds, back pain meds, inhalers, given also eczema topical creme, it was never-ending. All I wanted to say is that unless you are sure, really sure all these foods are causing these reactions, you should explore the options about how to overcome these allergies as they are not life-threatening right now. Instead of limiting your kid's life in the worst way possible. |

There isn't a single scientific study proving the link between food allergies and eczema, for the record. They can be comorbidities but a causal relationship HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN.
So, the odds that OP's child has eczema caused by this long list of foods are pretty low. |
|
I would go see a Naturopath. The goal would be to heal his gut so he can add these foods back eventually . I find they are better with these things.
I usually see fruits or veggie options at most kid events. People provide food because hungry kids are grumpy and no one wants that |
| So many judgmental parents. Just take care of your own kids and shut up. |
+1 |
Many kids and adults have seen reduced symptoms of eczema from changing diet. It happens with me and gluten. I’m sorry if you need a journal article to tell you what is real/false, but this association is very real for me. |
Sweet baby Jesus, I hope you're not a parent! |
| I hear you, OP. My DD has always tended to overeat and the snacks are everywhere. I don’t think it is helpful for me to tell her she can’t have the snack after soccer and make her feel embarrassed and singled out like that, but it’s irritating to think about how she’s gotten in some good physical activity and then is handed a bunch of sugary garbage. |
| And all sorts of adult events include good and snacks too. This is not a kid only thing. Learn to say no to extra food you don’t want or need. Most of this country over-eats. Kids need to learn early when to say no to food and snacks |
Man I hope this is a troll. Good news Jan, the party is food free. I mean who wants to eat. This whole thread is full of people with eating pathologies |
Is constantly thinking about your/your kids’ next meal or snack NOT a food pathology? |

My DD gets a candy bar from her French tutor at every lesson. She gets a bag of chips from tennis coach if she wins and sometimes just because.
She gets popcorn at tennis tournaments. She gets candy from music teacher. She gets candy from language arts teacher. She gets Cheetos and Caprisun as a snack at camps. She gets cookies and candy shared at school at lunch. There is pizza, cookies, cake and ice cream at every party. This Merica! |
