Masks for vaccinated teens in the fall at APS?

Because my kid isn’t vaccinated, and even though he’s masked, we know the real protection comes when others are. I don’t want him getting CoVID, especially after coming this far.

I’m okay with outdoors, but in a crowded grocery store on a Saturday?? I just couldn’t believe that.

-1000 Every single teacher at my school who has spoken with me about it wants masks on everyone 100% of the time. We don't want to have to worry about which kid is vaccinated and which isn't when we're looking at the sea of faces and having to teach. We all want ALL kids to show proof of vaccination before returning to the classroom anyway.

If the teachers are fully vaccinated: why????

Even my 78-year old (RN nurse of 30 years) no longer wears a mask.

Because the children are not vaccinated and they are known super-spreaders. If they are ALL vaccinated then no problem but if they are NOT ALL VACCINATED then it is a big problem. I don't want to get sick even if I've been vaccinated because I don't want long-term repercussions from being sick. If you want to take the risk for yourself, then go for it.

I don't want the risk for myself and I will quit if we are told in August that no kids in our middle school classrooms will be masked, whether they are vaccinated or not. With the exception of 1 teacher of the 17 I've polled in my grade level, we all feel the same way. We want masks on everyone until everyone has PROVED that they have been vaccinated.

If the teaching staff and admin staff are fully vaccinated---please tell me what the issue is ?

That's why fully vaccinated no longer need to wear masks in restaurants and stores, etc. It's the part of the reason for vaccination.

As a fully vaccinated person, I have no qualms about going into a restaurant to have a meal with unmasked patrons (not knowing their vaccination status).

I think some education needs to be done.

Now if a staff member is immune compromised or has some other situation where the vaccine may not be protective or they can't get vaccinated, Okay.

Yes I agree that you need some education on why we should keep masking requirements for the unvaccinated in schools.

I'm in the field. Viral immunology. It's the uneducated, hysterical people that are in need of education on the matter.

Oh here are the APE folks again! They were always anti mask and now are saying it out loud.

Everyone keeps mentioning APE and SR like they're still relevant. Love these forums!

Arlington has reached herd immunity - the stats on the number of people vaccinated in our county are high and don't even include residents who were vaccinated at their place of work/federal agencies.

I'd actually be fine with requiring vaccinations but also recognize that herd immunity means low to no risk and we've reached critical mass. We will never have zero risk, it's just a fact.
Anonymous
I think this is right. Arlington has likely reached herd immunity. The only concern would be variants that could get past the vaccine, thanks to visitors from other areas of the country that can't be bothered to get vaccinated.

+1 So there really IS NOT herd immunity... We're a fully vaccinated family that wants masks on everyone in the classroom. Wearing a mask is no big deal and we'd rather wear masks than get sick.
