I’m a high school teacher. I’m all about safety, but I’d like to think that by fall we’d be able to go without them. The summer provides a reasonable amount of time for teens to get their vaccines. The vast majority of my students have already started.
+1
-1000 Every single teacher at my school who has spoken with me about it wants masks on everyone 100% of the time. We don't want to have to worry about which kid is vaccinated and which isn't when we're looking at the sea of faces and having to teach. We all want ALL kids to show proof of vaccination before returning to the classroom anyway.
If the teachers are fully vaccinated: why???? Even my 78-year old (RN nurse of 30 years) no longer wears a mask.
Because the children are not vaccinated and they are known super-spreaders. If they are ALL vaccinated then no problem but if they are NOT ALL VACCINATED then it is a big problem. I don't want to get sick even if I've been vaccinated because I don't want long-term repercussions from being sick. If you want to take the risk for yourself, then go for it. I don't want the risk for myself and I will quit if we are told in August that no kids in our middle school classrooms will be masked, whether they are vaccinated or not. With the exception of 1 teacher of the 17 I've polled in my grade level, we all feel the same way. We want masks on everyone until everyone has PROVED that they have been vaccinated.
If the teaching staff and admin staff are fully vaccinated---please tell me what the issue is ? That's why fully vaccinated no longer need to wear masks in restaurants and stores, etc. It's the part of the reason for vaccination. As a fully vaccinated person, I have no qualms about going into a restaurant to have a meal with unmasked patrons (not knowing their vaccination status). I think some education needs to be done. Now if a staff member is immune compromised or has some other situation where the vaccine may not be protective or they can't get vaccinated, Okay.
Yes I agree that you need some education on why we should keep masking requirements for the unvaccinated in schools.
I'm in the field. Viral immunology. It's the uneducated, hysterical people that are in need of education on the matter.
obviously directed at the people regarding high schoolers.
OR the SR folks and people claiming they won't step foot in a classroom if not everyone is masked.
