Private & Independent Schools
I don’t think you understand what the APT is. The APT runs the snack bar at football games, organizes festivals and teachers appreciation days, sponsors the Halloween parade, assigns room parents, helps with the book fair, does used uniform sales, etc. The APT has ZERO to do with what your child is learning and seeing in the classroom curriculum, whether it is about race or otherwise. ZERO. Your angst is misplaced. Maybe connect with someone on the APT to actually learn what they do. |

Books like Stamped are standard at any good private school, and would be at public schools too if it weren’t for recent controversy.
By the way this sort of curriculum, and things like affinity groups, have been around for quite a while. It only recently started bothering people when Fox News decided to make a boogeyman out of so-called critical race theory. Really I’m just embarrassed that an SSSAS parent would be worked up about this. Please anonymous readers, I assure you - any such parent is in the minority at St Stephens. All the Republicans I know at the school are horrified by what has become of their party, and are more like Reagan / free market conservatives. And honestly the school as a whole skews liberal, like most in the DC area. |
you should be embarrassed because you think you speak for an entire school. Clearly you do not. |
PP is pretty accurate. I have read Stamped. It is an interesting read. |
I don't think I speak for the entire school, I think I speak for a majority of the school. Which makes sense, because, in fact, there ARE affinity groups, positive messages about Black Lives Matter in the classroom (and signs in the hallways), discussions of race that include assigned readings along the lines of Stamped, etc. It's pretty clear that isn't changing. If you want an education devoid of all discussions of racism, you can move your kids to that school Karen Pence taught at. |
Well the parents don't set up the groups, classroom messages or signs. So your logic (and grammar) is flawed. But keep telling yourself a majority of people think like you if it makes you feel better. |
Agree. Most of us support the way thr school is headed and just want the racists to leave. |
so anyone who doesn't share your opinion about CRT is a racist. Got it. |
| Well, you’re a racist. That much I know. Are you leaving the school? |
you don't even know me, so how can you possibly come to that conclusion? I don't know you either but based on that reply you are not very intelligent. And you most likely get your "facts" from MSNBC. And I am not 100% sure, but you are probably a tremendous jackass. |
NP. Congratulations. you and everyone like you have completely devalued the true meaning of that word. |
+ another 100000000. From a current SSSAS parent. I read this thread and have been proud to see the SSSAS parents supporting the inclusive agenda the school is following. It was a plus for us when we picked the school last Spring and feels reflective of the parents we are glad to have met. Not sad to see those who consider it an abomination leave (especially whoever said having a trans speaker was a “last straw”). My only hesitation is if this thread makes prospective parents feel like there is some kind of culture war going on… I don’t think there is apart from this board, the direction is pretty clear |
Let me make sure I understand this. You embrace a culture with diversity and inclusivity, but if a family has a different opinion then you do are glad they leave with their diverse opinions? Sounds about right. |
Yes, because we are only glad to see them go when they don’t value inclusiveness and diversity. We need to get away from this white supremacist ideology that so many of you value. It’s just unacceptable. |
Accusing someone of supporting white supremacy because they don't align with you politically is making quite a leap. |
