Stronger ECNL players will occasionally play MLS Next and vice versa? I doubt one team can be fully rostered in both leagues? Anyone know the plan?

I wonder if they boys will just remain separate. This merger seems to be about keeping SYC relevant for girls and helping McLean get some additional talent on the girls side

Could be. If SYC gets MLSNext for all age groups then one would have to think that SYC will keep all its best boys within that program.

If none of the boys leave SYC to do ECNL and none of the girls are good enough for SYC... can someone explain the point of this merger? How does this benefit SYC? SYC is sacrificing field space so a handful of their coaches can become ECNL assistant coaches of teams only containing McLean players????

Also not PP but can a SYC parent explain what the "Academy Coach" does? Is there an academy team above blue?

Good enough FROM SYC

Yes, the Academy is higher than Blue. However, U really have to look close at every age group, some have more teams or less.

Academy1 (Top team), Academy 2 and/or Blue team (2nd level Team), Orange team ( 3rd Team), White (4th Team).

You have to register with MYS for ECNL.

"The McLean coaches are tired of coaching rich entitled kids with sub-par talent and this is a way for them to justify bringing in kids with more talented kids who don't have anything else going for them besides soccer and want it more." Sub-par talent? You mean like the 2000 McLean ECNL team that went 37-0-0 less than two years ago and won the ECNL national championships? That's "sub-par" for you, hater?!?

So Virginia Union FC fell apart almost as quickly as the European Super League. Mclean shouldn't have partnered with SYC. They are always chasing that shiny object, going from league to league these last few years. Vienna would have been a much better partnership on all fronts.

SYC's girls aren't in an elite league. McLean's are. If SYC keeps MLSnext apart from the merger, the question is why will McLean give SYC slots on it's ECNL teams

Because SYC will give McLean some decent boys to help them survive! It goes both ways.

How did it fall apart?

The Question is, does McLean still have to wear those horrendous uniforms for a couple of players SYC will throw their way?

SYC announced they got full MLSNext so their top boys will do that and won't going to ECNL. So now on both the boys and girls sides, pretty much no one from SYC is going to join Virginia Union. Just going to cause inconvenience to the parents having to drive down to Springfield.

There is no reason for SYC girls to not go ECNL.

There is also no reason from the best girls from other clubs to not try out or any reason for McLean to not just take the better girls. I'm sure a few SYC girls will make it, but there is no chance that it will be a 50/50 merger, especially with the McLean boys side getting nothing out of it

This is just so terribly obvious that you have all made us dumber for having said it. The point of the merger is to expand a downstream player pool. The short term effect is that there are many kids at SYC who are given an early look and have right of first refusal. Kids have always been able to tryout wherever they wish to go but for SYC kids they get a possible offer and an option without lifting a finger or going anywhere. It offers a path of least resistance to stay in a familiar environment.

Doesnt MLS next teams also fall under Virginia Union FC umbrella? Will same boys be dual rostered for ECNL and MLS next?

unless significant numbers of SYC girls make the teams, SYC kids and parents won't view it that way and they will still try to position themselves to play in ECNL if that is the goal be it through moving to ECNL clubs early or be it though trying out everywhere they can
