What would you change about DCUM?

This. And fixing the search function, which isn’t easily usable. Otherwise, DCUM is perfection!

I wish Ops would comeback to report updates- especially in "diagnose me" type threads in Health Forum or any of the behavior problemsOp post in ES, Teen, and Toddler/Preschooler Forums.

Lock threads that are older than 1 yr old so ancient threads aren't dredged back up.

I wish they wouldn’t censor opinions that go against the mainstream narrative. I wish it was focused on whether or not the post makes a valid point or observation.

I wish the people on here were rational and not mean spirited. Agree to disagree, but don't wish harm on others simply because they have a different opinion than you do.

I would add let the original posters of the thread to delete the threads that conflict with the thread by their standards. The author would have a right to choose what is in line with their question. The delete button would be linked to the OP/s IP address and only that address side from Jeff of course could delete the individual posts. No other powers, just post deletion.

OPPSIEES correctoions:

Privilege's could be granted by Jeff on temporary or more permanent basis.

Dreams are very important thing PP...

Honestly all of the responses here are basically asking for Reddit. On Reddit responses are indented, you can up- and down-vote comments (and the more votes raises the response over the others, so that good responses get seen more and bad or troll ones are hidden), threads are locked after six months, you have to associate your comment with a profile (that then has a history that anyone can see), you can block profiles and hide certain topics, etc.

But I come to DCUM for the hyper-local discussions, and Reddit is international. Reddit also has millions of visitors a day, although not all subreddits get that many.

Maybe someone already posted this tip (I didn't read ALL the responses . . . ) but I've had good luck over the years opening a new window and using regular Google to search DCUM. I just type in DCUM and my search terms and Google gives me much better results than the search bar on DCUM itself.

Yours here would be the first of this thread to be deleted.

We need more sarcasm like this!

Nothing exists right now to get and share info anonymously. There are FB pages for different military bases, but obviously that’s not a place to post without being known, and there’s also the issue of posting something (about plans to retire or looking for info about a new location before an assignment is announced) that you don’t necessarily want to publicly share with people in your chain of command or your neighbors.

I’d love to be able to discuss things like retirement, promotion woes, post-retirement jobs in DC, finding housing, Tricare and insurance, spouse employment issues, and different duty stations. Not that DCUM should be the answer to the issue but I think it’d be a good fit and welcome addition to have a military board.

+1

I think this is an excellent idea. Have you posted this in website feedback?

NP. I have suggested this and the website feedback but was told there was an interest? That was maybe a year ago.
