Why do people buy white cars/SUVs?

I prefer black, but it shows every scratch. Our white cars somehow hide the dirt and scratches better.

+1 I scratched a white rental once and touched up with white nail polish.

The worst would be a dark gray car on a dark gray road. Black shows way too much dirt. Reds are ok. I don't usually care for blues or greens. Had beige for 14 yrs...meh. silver is ok, but not as sharp against the dark gray road color.

Basically, white and red look great.

Totally agree!

The latest Buick Regal and Tourx are essentially a rebadged Opel Insignia, built in Germany, w/AWD and 4 liter turbo w/250 HP....and tunable to 290 HP for approx $500 which will give you more torque than a naturally aspirated V6 ( up to approx 3.6 liter V6)

Is it because they don't want to spend the extra money for a color (many manufacturers offer white as standard and colors/metallic cost extra) or are trying to save money? Do dealerships offer better deals on white cars to unload them? Do some people actually prefer white?

....because sometimes, the contrasting black/white makes a car look totally awesome.....like the car below...

That looks like a shark.

Did that person seriously flex white SUVs with a white Buick Station Wagon?

Did you seriously ask a question you could answer yourself?

I always thought it was to reflect sunlight/heat in an attempt to stay cooler during the hot summer months.

I'm in a hot climate so black is out. I had grey once but felt invisible with too many near misses and some accidents. White is safe, safety is all that matters in my selection of car model too.

Thank you sharing didn't, didn't give much thought to color = safety, but this is good to know, thanks!

+ I kind of like the anonymity of a white vehicle. I always spot my color car friends around town and parking lots. I don't think anything negative of seeing others but I don't want my car being spotted

That brownish plum color or mahogany metallic took the highway by storm yesterday.

This is the weirdest reason since "hot mom car"! What do you see your "color car friends" doing?!

Also, FYI-- there is a woman in my neighborhood I can't stand and she recently bought a white SUV. I spot it everywhere. It's not because it's white. It's because it's her car and I've just gotten used to seeing her in it, so when I see a car that color and model, I know to check if it's her and can avoid her if necessary. So if someone is looking, they're going to spot you regardless.

This! White cars don’t get as hot in the summer.
