Why do people buy white cars/SUVs?

If you live in a hot climate, you will see a lot more white cars.

We have 4 cars, 1 is white the other 3 are black. The white one is the oldest but looks the best even though it's never been garaged. Perhaps bc it hides dirt. It is a Range Rover. My wife is old now, but will get a kick out of knowing that she drove a hot mom car when she was younger... and hotter. Or perhaps will lament aging and start to drive it again. Interesting question op.

Because they’re beautiful like pure cocaine.

Because white cars reflect light in hot climates. Huge difference between a light car and a dark car when you get temps of 90+

White exterior, all black leather interior. I’m on my third.

I love white--it doesn't show dirt as much and that's why I got it.

This.

I bought white because I wanted a change from my usual black colored car.

People may buy them, but you never really see white cars in commercials.

I always choose white. I hate commitment.

White cars are the easiest to keep clean. They don’t show road dust, which is light colored. Be sue they are white. Black and dark blue show the most dirt.

+1 I happen to love the Mercedes white shade, a soft white. Bright white? Not so much.

that doesn't count.

On a GLC:
Polar White - $0
designo Diamond White metallic - $1,515

this thread is about the Polar Whites of the car world

Actually my older GLK is Arctic White, a soft creamy white. Love that color, bummed they switched to Polar White, which is your standard bright white.

Same. But I associate them with cheap government fleet cars. For years, the only white cars I saw were government cars.

Funny. I just bought a white car. Prior cars were blue, red, gold, silver, gray. I always thought white cars were harder to keep clean but based on some of the prior comments, I may be in luck!

We bought ours because it was $1500 cheaper than all the other colors. I don't know why. But figure 1500 will buy me a lot of car washes. Now the more I stare at it, the more I like it, even though I would have never thought I'd own a white car.

It's awful. Every car is a parking lot is white, black, or some variation of silver/gray.

We try to avoid these colors if at all possible, but just did buy a metallic gray one, because it had all the features and price we wanted in used car.

Or other car is Cherry Red.

Black or white age fairly well, it won’t look date distinctive like 80s maroon, 90s teal, and 2000s gun metal grey.

Silver can be ageless but there are exceptions

This thread has made me hyper-aware of white cars, and especially white SUVs. I find myself noticing them constantly to the point where it seems like half of all SUVs I see are white (can this possibly be?). I've never thought about it at all before. I'm not a car person and while I think there are some ugly car colors, I find most inoffensive and don't care that much what color my car or anyone else's is.

But now I actively don't want a white care because it seems really common, probably just based on my over-noticing of them after this thread.

Also, the "hot mom car" thing made me laugh so I find myself noticing women driving white SUVs and the results of my unscientific survey is that the main thing that women with white SUVs have in common is that they look tired (maybe that's the pandemic and not the vehicle, who can say for sure), and get easily annoyed by people staring at them at stoplights. Sorry ladies!
