Why do people buy white cars/SUVs?

Is it because they don't want to spend the extra money for a color (many manufacturers offer white as standard and colors/metallic cost extra) or are trying to save money? Do dealerships offer better deals on white cars to unload them? Do some people actually prefer white?

....because sometimes, the contrasting black/white makes a car look totally awesome.....like the car below...

I like white cars with black wheels for this reason.

If white SUVs are the "hot mom car", does that mean they are cheugy, like word art and pumpkin spice lattes?

This matters when you’re creeping, or running from the law.

We ultimately got one because it cost less.

But I will say, it's much easier to find in a parking lot (even with other white cars, they pop out). Our black SUV blends in.

I’m in the market for an Expedition Max (huge) and looking ONLY for white. I’ve driven black cars for 20 years and I’m tired of them. White looks crisp and clean. Big black vehicles look like I’m about to kidnap someone. Husband thinks they look like 4WD hearses.

White is the best color if you’re going to do a custom paint job or vinyl wrap appliqué.

I just get whatever color they have.

Because we used to live in a warmer area, and white was the best color to have.

Most people bought white cars with a lighter interior so you wouldn't sweat thru your clothes in the first 30 second you were in the car.

Here, it's not as hot for as long. I buy whatever color is practical for whatever climate I am living in. Here, it's something that hides dirt.

Parents had a white car. I noticed that it's harder to notice when it's getting dirty. Now I only buy white cars because I'm lazy and don't like washing my car that often.

White car owner here:
We are in the middle of a cross country drive. Tons of dead bugs splattered on the front of our car. They are VERY noticeable with the white paint job.

I've already gone through the car wash twice and these dead bugs are really caked on. I've scrubbed with paper towels (that's all I have) and the dead bug carcasses still ain't budging.

It's kinda gross. Definitely a downside to a white car.

The white color on Teslas is not only cheaper but gets an extra coat of paint so it’s more durable / leas likely to chip. Some may want white to avoid the extra cost of PPE.

We got a white keya Sorento plug in hybrid because it was the only plug in hybrid available. The color is growing on me. Incidentally ive always liked white vw bugs. They look like tic tacs! Adorable.

I hate white color from the bottom of my heart and my DH adores white color. He bought a brand new luxury car that is white. I was not in the favor of buying any car right now, certainly not a luxury car, and absolutely not a white color car. So I knew that I would not be 100% happy with the purchase. I let my DH be 100% happy.

White minivan driver here. The dealer was clearing out their inventory to make way for the newer model so it was super discounted. The other choice was a deep red, which is what my MIL was driving (and I didn’t want to feel like her).

I grew up in Manhattan and didn’t start driving until my late 30s, so I kinda get a kick out of driving a white minivan. (Oh, and I have three kids and a dog, so it comes in handy.)

Funny. Just had this conversation with a friend recently. Who would actually BUY a white car? So ugly and I’d feel like I’m driving a rental car.
