I loved seasons 1 and 2 but was slightly disappointed in season 3. The thing I loved most about seasons 1 and 2 was how human and relatable the people and situations were, but season 3 was too much like a soap opera, too much drama to be real.

So what happened with the surrogate? Didn't she get pregnant on the first try? They never mentioned that situation again after Ruchami got pregnant herself.

Is Racheli ultra orthodox too? I couldn't figure that out. Based on her lifestyle she doesn't seem to be, but if she's not, why would Akiva's family encourage them to stay together beyond the fake marriage to please social services?

Why was Giti so opposed to the match with Shira #1? Other than the embarrassment of breaking off the engagement with Shira #2, what was wrong with Shira #1 or her family in Giti's eyes?

How did Libbi die, and if they didn't make it clear in the show why not?

The evolution of the relationship between Lippe and Giti kind of bugs me. It started at one place in season 1 when Lippe left for Argentina, and by season 3 it seems completely different and not believable given where they started.

There also were so many sub plots going on in season 3 that really didn't seem that relevant or important to driving the overall story. For example the thing with buying the car and Zvi Avri getting trapped inside. They were trying to point out tensions in gender roles and in the marriage, but it just seemed kind of disjointed from the other storylines. And even if you couldn't open the car doors from the back seat, surely the front doors would open!

All that said I did enjoy it and I'm sure it was difficult to film in 2020. I notice that most scenes only included a few people, hardly any with many people together, which is probably due to the difficulties of filming during a pandemic. All in all it was a fun watch and I'll be curious to see where they go with these characters if there's a season 4.

Giti was opposed to Shira #1 because she was of Algerian descent. I belive the Git and her family are all Russian or some other eastern european descent.

There's something like 5 years between the end of Season 2 and Season 3, so I think that's plenty of time for Lippe and Giti to repair their relationship. It felt repaired in season 2, when they opened up that restaurant.

I had the same question about the surrogate and thought that the season might end with Ruchami and Hanina having two infants.

I think Giti's objection to Shira #1 is perhaps because Shira #1 is Sephardic and the Weiss/Shtisels are Askhenazi? Hence why Lippe told her that "we're all Jews, they just eat their fish a bit more seasoned" or however the line went. Giti also mentions that she wants one match in the family to go "right", so it's could also be a face-saving thing with the matchmaker and Shira #2's family over the date mixup.

I think Zvi Aryeh trapped in the car was supposed to be a bit of comic relief (he's kind of a goofy character who wants to be taken seriously but kind of gets himself into silly situations), but I think one of the wider themes of the show is how the ultra-Orthodox interact with more modern aspects of life and culture, like women driving, advancing in the workforce, accessing higher ed, etc. The surrogacy plotline fits into that, even Lippe's catering job on the film set.

Racheli is Orthodox -- her clothes are perhaps more stylish and expensive (than Ruchami and Giti's for example), but I think that's meant to show her wealth and creative side. I think we also see her parents, and their manner of dress looks Orthodox. The wedding dress she shows up in to marry Akiva is also very modest. It also suggests that she perhaps had a broken engagement. Although she very likely could just have bought that on a whim that day.

So if Racheli is ultra orthodox why didn't she cover her hair after she was married? Or did she just get a wig that looks exactly like her real hair? I thought her hair looked real for most of the season, except there was once scene where it kind of looked like a wig but still the same color/style as her real hair. But then in the next episode it looked real to me again. But maybe I'm just not good at spotting wigs!

I had the same reaction -- in some scenes the wig is more obvious. But yeah, I think she is wearing a wig, albeit a more expensive one than the other women, after she marries him. Again, I think it's possible she may have had it on hand for after a previous engagement.

The surrogate was never implanted. Ruchami called it off before they implanted the embryos. She made up the story about the surrogate being pregnant, as a way to cover her trail after she figured out a way to get pregnant herself.

That was my understanding too.

Maybe because the wedding was not real but only to help Akiva to get back his child?

I just finished the last episode and am confused as to why people think ruchami dies? She seemed completely fine (Baruch ha Shem ).

So much death in this series.

Do the ultra-orthodox tend to die young?

Death makes for good drama. Think of all the doctors killed off in Grey's Anatomy...(haven't watched that show in years, however).

I know. Right? This is so obvious. After reading those posts I rewatched the last episode and was really surprised by why people would say she died.

Maybe they did it in some way to tune into the world around. Considering so much sickness, death and suffering they kind of reflected this in some way. It could probably be bad if it was too much happy happy haha haha. But at the same time they slightly overdid on the heavy themes. I would like more non sad stuff next time.

Right but that show does not have to be all drama as this is not what most viewers need or want. Most people are drown to it by the curiosity about unknown and they did like normal life stuff. So much death and suffering as the third season is kind of overdoing on that drama stuff. So they need to lay it off a bit.
Truly most of the themes were sad. Most of them. I was watching with klinex box next to me and needed it few times per episode. WAY too much emotions.

Let’s vote that 8 episodes does not make a proper season. Season 3 sucked in comparison to 1 and 2.
