How did Libbi die, and if they didn't make it clear in the show why not?

The evolution of the relationship between Lippe and Giti kind of bugs me. It started at one place in season 1 when Lippe left for Argentina, and by season 3 it seems completely different and not believable given where they started.

There also were so many sub plots going on in season 3 that really didn't seem that relevant or important to driving the overall story. For example the thing with buying the car and Zvi Avri getting trapped inside. They were trying to point out tensions in gender roles and in the marriage, but it just seemed kind of disjointed from the other storylines. And even if you couldn't open the car doors from the back seat, surely the front doors would open!

All that said I did enjoy it and I'm sure it was difficult to film in 2020. I notice that most scenes only included a few people, hardly any with many people together, which is probably due to the difficulties of filming during a pandemic. All in all it was a fun watch and I'll be curious to see where they go with these characters if there's a season 4.

I had the same question about the surrogate and thought that the season might end with Ruchami and Hanina having two infants.

I think Giti's objection to Shira #1 is perhaps because Shira #1 is Sephardic and the Weiss/Shtisels are Askhenazi? Hence why Lippe told her that "we're all Jews, they just eat their fish a bit more seasoned" or however the line went. Giti also mentions that she wants one match in the family to go "right", so it's could also be a face-saving thing with the matchmaker and Shira #2's family over the date mixup.

I think Zvi Aryeh trapped in the car was supposed to be a bit of comic relief (he's kind of a goofy character who wants to be taken seriously but kind of gets himself into silly situations), but I think one of the wider themes of the show is how the ultra-Orthodox interact with more modern aspects of life and culture, like women driving, advancing in the workforce, accessing higher ed, etc. The surrogacy plotline fits into that, even Lippe's catering job on the film set.

Racheli is Orthodox -- her clothes are perhaps more stylish and expensive (than Ruchami and Giti's for example), but I think that's meant to show her wealth and creative side. I think we also see her parents, and their manner of dress looks Orthodox. The wedding dress she shows up in to marry Akiva is also very modest. It also suggests that she perhaps had a broken engagement. Although she very likely could just have bought that on a whim that day.[/quote]
