I don’t think Libby died in childbirth. In S3E1 she says she wishes she could breastfeed the baby again, and in another episode I think Akiva tells the daughter that she died when the daughter was 2 months old.
Did anyone else think that the nursing woman in the painting was Libby, not Kive’s mother? |
She didn’t die in childbirth. They said she died 2 months later. |
I think the baby was 10 months old when they had the art show and the dealer said he lost his wife 8 mo ago. |
It is not based on a guess. I believe they said the baby was 10 months and the wife died 8 months ago. |
The baby turns one in season three. It’s stated that Libby and her mother died eight months ago which is why the father is beyond wrecked at first. So she didn’t die in childbirth but likely an accident. That said the writers say there are details left out on purpose because they don’t matter. |
I love the opening song sooooooooo much!!! |
I’m a big fan of the show and a close friend of mine (who happens to be Jewish) is mystified at how so many of us can like the show when apparently the Haredi are very racist, discriminatory etc. She likens them to Trumpers.
You hear Shulem refer negatively toward “Zionists” and Giti is clearly horrified by her son potentially marrying an Ashkanezi woman. There may be other examples I didn’t pick up on.. |
I got it off Spotify. |
Because that is not the point of the drama! Jesus. I’m so surprised at how people can watch this drama and then miss the whole point of it. |
I also had a Jewish friend who was insulted that I recommended it because I know she likes family dramas. I was surprised, but then I thought about the intense conflicts in the Jewish families I"m friends with over religiosity and politics. Maybe I wouldn't want to watch a show that treated people like my white, MAGA, Eastern shore family sympathetically? |
Exactly (i’m the PP who raised it). Interesting how previous posters seem very offended I even mentioned it. |
I think the pp was offended by potential viewers who don't like a show because of the political/religious/racial views of fictional characters. |
I am about to start A TOUCH AWAY. Anyone seen it? |
Yup. Is it back on Prime? It's a fun watch, but it's not like Shtisel. More of a cliché portrayal where the viewer is invited to be outraged at how terrible and oppressive ultra-Orthodox life is. The one thing I think it does well is give a glimpse into the experience of Jews from the former USSR adjusting to Israel. |
Thanks! I’ll see if it’s worth it. Hard after shtisel! I also loved unorthodox. |
