Shtisel Fan club Seasons 1 2 3 free range discussions. Spoiler alert. Episodes content inside. :)

This is a new Shtetel thread for anything and everything Shiites. It is okay to discuss content of episodes here. Those who don't want to know, be warned.

So now we had all three seasons installed on Netflix and most people expressed need for a place where we could talk about stuff without concern about spoilers.

How did you like the 3rd season so far? How do you like the opening Episode?

I was shocked that they "killed off" his wife character like this and wondering why? Any ideas?
Was it always a plan or some modification? Made me extremely sad. And kind of put a dumper on the entire episode.. that of course had so much more in store.. and lot of surprises.

I wonder if they changed the writer as the script seemed to take very sharp turns without any warnings.

I missed Akiva's usual previous usual warm glow and the happy smiles that are gone due to the grief naturally but still.. I think without them it is bit like someone turned the light off.

It’s the same writers. I saw an interview with one where they said they were well aware of fan base opinions (it’s been years since they shot the prior seasons!) and him winding up with Libby wasn’t popular. They had to think of a way to move forward.

Oh, that explains a lot. I agree with that notion. I think that the Libby character was not a great match and the chemistry was off balance. Now when you mentioned that, when she appears in the first scene of the third season, I immediately got the feeling that something is not right.. like something was brewing... and clearly there was.

I like the new female character of the Akiva's "pretend wife" but they bit overcomplicated the relationship so far.

There is a lot of depressing motives in the third season. Everyone seems to be crashed by life in one way or the other. I wonder is it by design? There is certain imbalance between depressive and sad themes and uplifting ones.. that seem seriously missing form the third season.

So they killed her off so he could be single again to appeal to his fan base of women who wish he were unattached. ugh.

I really liked her personality, and I liked her smile.

Now, something else. Everyone looks so unhealthy! Why is this?

Well.. not really, for one he already has a baby so he is not much of a butterfly of a bachelor.
Also, he is rather heavily involved and more so with every episode with a woman who has a disorder and looks clearly they are going to end up together for good.
Lastly, yes, I noticed that too, actors do look tired and worn out with few exceptions of those who somehow changed from last season to this season and look more perky. Wonder why.

Perhaps the covid situation took toll? When did they film it? Wasn't it filmed in 2020? Perhaps some of them had covid and were in recovery after that?

Akiva seemed to laps into alcohol addiction and that made me wonder if the actor was not well so maybe he had a lot of tired looking scenes? Who knows.

Overall it was good to see the familiar faces but the show left me somewhat depressed seeing all of the characters dealing with some seriously adverse stuff.

The whole pregnancy situation, where this came from? Why did they decide to make it so complicated for those kids that gained so much sympathy from all of us. They almost killed the girl in the process and took away from us all the 4 or so years of the life of Shtetels.

If they will bring another season. I for one require more happy themes. I don't need this to be all huraaay optimistic but there needs to be some balance that season 3 lacks and is on the dark side.

This timeline from Wiki explains a little.
It clearly shows that the show has some bumps on the road comes to the third season.
They clearly had some problem with the actors contracts, then it was not even confirmed till April 2020..
so after Covid started world wide, Israel had been hit pretty hard too. The production started in May 2020! and was postponed due to covid YET resumed in June and ended in September. So they did all those eight episodes between Jun and September. DURING covid. So that must have not been easy on the crew!

In May 2019, Shtisel was renewed for a third season.[15] In May 2019, a dispute with the Israeli Actors’ Association delayed the signing of contracts for the third series.[16] In August 2019, producer Dikla Barkai said, “We cannot confirm Season 3 yet. There are many reasons. Let’s hope. We are thinking positively. I would say it will.”[4]

In April 2020, series producer Barkai confirmed that a third season of Shtisel had been due to begin filming in May 2020, but would have to be postponed on account of the coronavirus pandemic.[5] Production resumed in June and a trailer was later released in September.[7]

On December 17, 2020, an online world premier event for Season 3, Episode 1 was hosted by the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center.[17] Season 3 will stream on Netflix starting March 25, 2021.[18

I have finished the whole season. Against my new rules of one episode a day of anything but this just had to be finished.

I am really sad. I am sad because they made it so depressing. I wish they balanced it better. Life is not just dark. I hope they will do better next season.

Kive almost NEVER smiled, he had no reasons to.

And that portrait of her new wife all surrounded in flames.. one thing is to have some mental disorder, another to portrait it like that on Netflix. I think they did something wrong here with this. When they showed this image I was like.. WTF...

Anybody noticed a grandma swap? I was like.. this is not the same actress... my DH who has not thing for details said, it is the same person.. so I checked. and so they did. Apparently the first actress died. I did liked her so much... she had some grandma's charm to her. Then they replaced her with similar lady who also was sweet but you could tell .. different person.

Both cases, casting was very good. Which was your favorite grandma?

First grandma RIP.

Second grandma , actress replacement.

I cried when she died... and how nobody had time to take her to the ocean.. yet what a beautiful death...

I loved the third season. It wasn’t all dark. Ruchami, Kive, Yosale...all lovely stories.

I'm done (I also broke my rule of controlling myself)

I thought it was so good. Wow.

re a PP and the flames on her picture, did that relate to the mental illness? I thought it went back to his dream of his paintings of his first wife burning.

re: bolded.

Flames - oh, I see what you mean about the dream but I think it might be more about the mental illness, and if so, that was really kind of.. hm... I don't know.. this kind of image just by looking at it, could set his wife in real life some few solid years back into therapy I think. If it he wanted to make her portrait, I think he could make it real in many ways without being extreme.
