We’re in California. You take the vaccine time given to you.

Many Nannies in California aren’t eligible for the vaccine, so you should just be quiet and grateful she’s getting it!! LA told nannies they aren’t eligible so you’re very lucky

She wants a long weekend.

Everyone needs time off RN. Good grief, she's scared. Dial in for some compassion, OP.

Or nanny got vaccinated with J&J in the evening and took the next say off as the effects were tough. She was back at work day after and then it was the weekend anyway.

I would let her be off and wouldn’t charge her for leave in this instance. A whole year without taking leave? Your nanny is amazing and she will be poached if you don’t appreciate her.

90% of people have NO reaction other than sore arm. Of the 10% left most only have mild reactions but boy are they vocal about it!
As for your nanny be nice but that’s a long time. Maybe you could suggest take a day and save her leave fir a real vacation time.

You cant suggest anything when it comes to a benefit that has been earned. God you people are so anti-employee rights. Indentured servitude amiright?

You can’t take “sick days” when you are not sick in most jobs. Of course most everyone cheats but asking ahead ... hey boss I’m going to get the flu next weekend ... for the golf tournament.

You’re right, she should just wait and call at 6am on Friday to say she’s sick.

If I awake after my second vaccine feeling like crap I’m calling out. Either my boss accepts it or not. If they offer to pay for the day great as they asked me to get vaccinated if not that’s ok too - there are other families willing to pay a premium for a vaccinated nanny.

This is so not true. 70% have a systemic reaction and 30% have a "level III" reaction that prevents them from work and daily activities.

This is completely different and legitimate. I took a half day of sick leave (booked ahead) to go get the vaccine and I'm planning on taking 2.5 days for the second (half a day to get it and two days to recover).

We have a toddler and a baby. She unquestionably has the PTO coming and I’m not denying her that. Yes, I’m sure she’s afraid to be or feel sick here rather than home.

It’s the timing. DH and I both have huge work commitments this month and our toddler is in a real nanny-only phase. With the new baby, this will definitely be hard not to see her for five days.

Would it really be so wrong to ask her just to play it by ear and see how she feels? We’ll take over the instant she starts feeling poorly as we’re both home. And she lives just a mile a way and can drive those days in five minutes.

Oh my Lord, I almost hope this is a troll. If you can’t manage to care for your own children for a couple of days, why did you choose to have children? This is just pathetic.

Seriously! I can’t understand how this is even a question.

This!

I just had the first shot on Tuesday. No initial reaction, but the injection site pain that started about 10 hours after changed overnight from minor to feeling like a hot poker being twisted and jabbed into the site. I also went from 97.8 at the time of injection to 98.7 at 10pm and 102 by morning. My employers simply asked if I needed anything. Fever broke last night, and there’s no more arm pain.

I’m not looking forward to any side effects from the second shot, but I’d rather have them and know that I’m most likely not going to get covid now than not be sure if I was in the minority who are immunized.
