I laughed so hard, PP.

My employer, state government, will give us paid 16 hour of administrative leave (that doesn't take away from our personal leave or sick leave) IF we are sick after the vaccine. Oh and couple hours administrative leave for getting the vaccine too.

My employer is typically very stingy, but they want everyone to get vaccinated. They don't want people putting it off for fear of needing to use precious personal time.

Seriously, you suck OP.

+ a million. Nannies are getting us through this pandemic but no one ever talks about them, with lots of of risks to their own health and no job security or benefits. Add to this entitled boss parents like OP who think their needs are more important than hers. Guess who will be benefitting from her getting the shot as well, the precious kids and parents with the oh-so-important jobs.

My nanny is extremely well compensated and we have bent over backwards to accommodate her this year, including allowing her to bring her own children to work and providing them with a dedicated room in our house for virtual
School and dropping our expectations WAAAAAY DOWN for her work over the last year. We have also paid her for several weeks when she was not working due to Covid exposure related issues.

It’s a partnership. We do expect her to be pretty reliable and consistent about coming to work, especially now when we don’t have many options for back up care. We really depend on her and we pay her accordingly. She’s worked for us for years and we hope she will for at least another 3-5 years.

Expecting a nanny to come to work consistently is not unkind or disrespectful. It’s not a super flexible job hours wise. That doesn’t make me a bad employer.

Are you the op? Allowing your nanny this leave time will only serve to benefit her, you, and the community. Not allowing it will cause her to put off the vaccine until she finds the perfect Friday slot so she can recover in peace. Just give her a few days so you can BOTH get back to normal. No more virtual school, no more lower expectations. You've accomodated her this far, just keep going for this one last very important thing.

Unaccommodating employers are going to be a huge problem in getting people vaccinated.

Oh yes, because you certainly have the freedom to choose to get your vaccine at 4pm on a Friday.

Are you living under a rock or something?

She HAS been pretty reliable and consistent according to your original posts about how she has the time coming to her.

Your expectations here are completely unreasonable. What did you do during those times when she wasn't able to come to work due to COVID exposure?

Frankly, you sound whiney and entitled. Your employees are not your property. If she is entitled to the time, you give her the time. If you give her crap about the time she is taking off, that just makes you look stingy and unreasonable. It doesn't matter if the job is flexible hours-wise or not. She is taking the time off to get a vaccine that will prevent her from having to take off weeks due to COVID exposure, and since you seem pretty put out about that, bragging about how you've lowered your expectations for her work and how you also pay her so well.

Maybe consider parenting your children and telling your respective jobs that they don't own YOU and that people have other commitments in life than work.

As for your nanny be nice but that’s a long time. Maybe you could suggest take a day and save her leave fir a real vacation time.

This is so not true. 70% have a systemic reaction and 30% have a "level III" reaction that prevents them from work and daily activities.

This!

I just had the first shot on Tuesday. No initial reaction, but the injection site pain that started about 10 hours after changed overnight from minor to feeling like a hot poker being twisted and jabbed into the site. I also went from 97.8 at the time of injection to 98.7 at 10pm and 102 by morning. My employers simply asked if I needed anything. Fever broke last night, and there’s no more arm pain.

I’m not looking forward to any side effects from the second shot, but I’d rather have them and know that I’m most likely not going to get covid now than not be sure if I was in the minority who are immunized.

PP again.

After my second shot, my temp shot to between 102 and 103, I was woozy and disoriented, had little to no understanding of how off I was, and overall just was not up to caring for someone else’s children.

It’s going to be really, really hard for us right now with working from home but she definitely has the time coming. And our toddler will have a hard time without her. How can we compromise on this?

Be humane and give her the time off. My goodness.

Maybe she's taking an extra day to go on job interviews.

Np here. I would have needed 3 days. I got my 2nd vaccine at 10 am on a Friday and was exhausted by 1 pm. I was throwing up by 5 and threw up / ran a fever for most of Saturday. Sunday I probably could have worked but was really worn out.

90% of people have very mild reactions. The other 10% scream so loud I can here it from my phone !

If she has the time, her reasons don't matter. Get a grip.

I’m a nanny who is so completely burned out from pandemic that I took the t off after my vaccine just in case. I was totally fine and enjoyed a day at home. My boss has been ‘working’ from home this entire time in pajamas and watching Netflix. I never take days off and I needed one. The vaccine was a great excuse.

Let’s hope for the nanny’s sake!
