I would think you'd have leave saved up since you have probably dealt with far fewer illnesses due to covid. So, take some leave and be with your kid. It's also a great time to work on the fact that your kid has a hard time being with you. That seems like a problem in need of a solution. Take a few days off and have some fun with your toddler. I wouldn't have wanted to be lifting a toddler repeatedly after my first shot, and my colleagues tell me the second is worse. |
I scheduled my nannys vaccine appointment for 5 pm so she can work a full day before that. If she cant come in the day after thats ok and we will be just fine but shes not asking to take it ahead of time. |
It’s responsible of her to plan for if. Would you prefer she calls out on short notice when she feels like crap? The only thing you can ask is if she will come in if she feels ok. |
This nanny sounds indulged. Set a precedent. If you let her take vacation days to recover for a vaccine that helps protect your family, your child and her ability to continue to take of your child, what's next? Actually using her sick days? Stop this in its tracks now. |
Wow. Imagine if you had to deal with an actual emergency? And may your boss treat you the way you treat your nanny. |
I’m the principal of an elementary school where almost every teacher has had their second dose. Everyone had 1-2 hours of admin leave to get the actual dose. No one took more than one day of sick leave the following day. I personally took a day because of a high fever. And some staff had no reaction.
If your nanny has 3 days of PTO, there’s not much you can do whether she needs to recover or not. If she’s asking to be paid for taking an entire day to get the actual vaccine, I’d definitely push back. That’s unnecessary. She could leave early and get the vaccine in the afternoon on her way home. Or if she has a morning time slot, she could come in later. But again, an entire day is not needed. |
She’s never been sick? Holy hell, woman, give the nanny the days off she’s asking for!! |
Not possible in all states. In California they give you the date and time of your 1st and 2nd vaccine. |
Sure. But an entire day is not needed. If the nanny is using her accrued leave, that’s fine. But if she wants a “free” day off to get a shot, that’s ridiculous. |
How does your toddler make it through the weekend without the nanny? Or does she work all weekend, too? |
Are most bosses allowing three days off for a vaccine? Mine sure wasn’t. |
Your nanny doesn’t want to get sick or be sick in front of you and the kids. Give her the time off! |
You’re boss won’t let you be sick and use your earned PTO for three days?! Where do you work? |
I felt like shit after my second vaccine. Give her the time off now so you can plan. Otherwise she will have to call in “last minute” and you’ll be on here b!*ch!ng about how she left you high and dry. |
OP’s nanny has never taken a sick day. She can damn well use it now. |
