If everyone is paying the same percentage as a tax, what does one have to do with the other?

The goal of taxation is to raise money the government needs to pay for things. Period. It is not to take money from some people and give it to others. That’s called “theft”.

What is equal and what is fair are two different things. Equal is not always fair. Didn’t you learn that in preschool?

The income tax has many flaws. But progressivity in rates is not one of them because one underlying principle is ability to pay.

Nothing in the tax code takes from one and “gives” to another. That very false premise right underscores the complete mental deficiency in the way conservatives think. They are always so worried about what others “get” and fear it is something is taken away from them as a result. Ironically many of them identify as Christian. I was raised Christian and was taught you only look in someone else’s bowl to be sure they have enough, not because you fear they have too much.
