Conservatives love to complain about “cancel culture” because they are brainless and lap up whatever distractions their curated right wing media spoon feeds them. The reality is conservatives have their own form of political correctness they try to impose and impulsively try to cancel things all the time.
Recent examples: Coke (just last week), the NFL (oh Lord, black athletes kneeling during the anthem!), Target, Walmart, Netflix... What else? |
Things the right has tried to cancel:
The dixie chicks, back during GWB Any lgbt friendly book that made it to a shelf in their local library (if you want links, there are hundreds.) Hillary Rodman Clinton, for 20+ years Target (for their bathrooms) Drag queen story hour Kneeling Mask wearing, for Covid Halloween (at least the evangelicals near us) That's just what I can think of off the top.of my head. |
Goodyear, Nike |
Alexander Vindman... |
Oreos, for "attempting to normalize the LGBTQ lifestyle" with their ads |
Way back in the day, in the 80s and 90s, conservatives "cancelled" Disney, Amy Grant, and Proctor and Gamble (because they had a brand image that was considered "satanic" by fundies / evangelicals. |
Sesame Street
Teletubbies Good Lord, it is an infinite list. |
Jane Fonda |
democracy |
Boycotting the NFL generally and Colin Kaepernick particularly.
Censuring any Republican who says or does anything Trump doesn’t like. What happened with Coke? |
I thought the Oreo thing was because of a multi-racial family in an ad, or was that a different company? |
renewable energy |
Starbucks because their holiday cups weren’t Christmasy enough. |
Didn’t they get all worked up about Cheerios a few years ago? After a commercial with two dads?
Mr. Potato Head - they’re super up in arms about that. |
