Are you serious? Landon had this reputation long before the George Huguely murder scandal. And Huguely is a clear example of the "not so great" reputation and the "boys will be boys" attitude.
|
| You are obviously forking over money for some really bad Landon day care if you genuinely believe 'everything about this post is false'. |
| Landon is not daycare. But the question is whether they can mend their reputation to make itself better in terms of academics, ethics and morals. |

I saw this in another thread and I'm going to copy it here because I think some people in this thread could really benefit from reading it
One thing that bears recognition: People slight Landon for the SAT scandal, the Duke lacrosse fiasco (despite the fact that it wasn't true, it still seems to be etched in people's minds), and now George Huguely. However, an important fact that people fail to recognize is that Landon has a different headmaster now than from when all of this went down. When GH attended Landon, when the Duke kids attended Landon, and when the SAT scandal happened, it all occurred under the tutelage of Landon's previous headmaster. Which is why he was essentially fired. Also, the school replaced their Upperschool Head + Middle school head. Landon's new headmaster has done a really good job of trying to get the school back on track, mainly by bolstering the schools arts/music programs and trying to get back to the whole "renaissance man" approach. It seems inane to judge Landon TODAY based off of all of those incidents that reflect Landon of the past. |
| Great they cleaned house and someone was fired but the culture does not change overnight. |
| i can't believe it took someone this long to point out that Landon has a new headmaster. That's a big deal and I, for one, didn't know it. That's a real recognition that there was something fundamentally wrong with the culture of the school. Landon's culture issues, at least on this board, have pointed out long before Yeardley Love's murder. I'm confused. If the school has taken steps to address them, why nobody pointed out the change in headmaster earlier. |
"Essentially" fired? Was he or was he not fired? |
I don't know whether he was "officially" fired, but I do know that he was forced out by the board and teachers aren't shy about admitting that he took the school in the wrong direction with a lot of his personnel decisions and policies. Landon's new headmaster is really fantastic, though. |

Here is another example that thinsg are changing at Landon:
Musicians Are Honored in DC and Maryland Posted 05/06/2010 09:06AM Upper School Strings Attain Highest Ratings Landon’s Upper School String Ensemble received a straight 1 rating from all three judges at the Maryland State orchestra festival on April 26. For the first time in more than a decade, the musicians, under the direction of Dr. Paul Scimonelli, also achieved straight 1 ratings in District and travel competitions. Middle School Strings, also under the direction of Dr. Scimonelli, traveled to Lindale Middle School on May 3 to participate in this year's Maryland All State orchestra festival and adjudication, attaining an overall 2 rating and qualifying for a red ribbon medal from the Maryland Orchestra Director's Association. Congratulations to our Upper and Middle School Strings players! |
I'm feeling a bit bad for the Beauvoir families ... they must miss of the negative attention they normally get while Landon takes all the heat!
|
| Wait til the Landon lacrosse coach is called by Huguely's defense to be a character witness... |
| Don't think so pp. GH is going to need a higher power like a priest or minister. |
| And, he's going to have to hope his parents hired the best lawyers money can buy |
| The legal fees alone ...even before an appeal could reach about $500,000...but what parent wouldn't do everything for their kid and try to pay the money |
| For the publicity some lawyers might discount their fees a bit or work out other arrangements. |
