I can’t almost type this without bursting into laughter, but are there any candidates who are socially liberal, but more pro-business, pro-development and tough on crime??? Ha ha hoooooo hooo. I forgot where we live. Bring on the “tax the rich and give to the poor people who have 10 kids out of wedlock” style politicians. |
This is what I am saying. It’ll be back to 90’s where lawlessness reigned if we keep up these lax on crime, woke criminal justice policies. If people know they have free license to do anything without consequence why would they stop? Charles Allen’s latest constituent email touted his progress with promoting “violence interrupters”. Get the fk out of here. All the studies show they don’t work. |
Attend his Zoom meeting tonight and ask questions! https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwtcequrT8vE9UqmtekzAUuq71L8uwyxLgk Ask Charles Allen what evidence he has that this programs are working, Ask him how many more victims he will tolerate before he helps Washingtonians. |
I wish she would run. I really appreciate the stuff she has done to shine a light on crime issues -- including trying to get the council to help hold the US attorney's office accountable. |
Here here! |
We are like that - Republicans who live in DC. All of the above... I think Tony Willis our best Mayor was like that ( I voted for him). Maybe we need to have more "independent" candidates who fit the bill above. Get away from having to be blessed by the title Democrat to get elected in DC? |
| Sorry "Williams" |
I’ll take it one step further. I’m pro gentrification. I don’t care if it leads to too many Starbucks shops. It’s better than getting car jacked and the 18 year old getting off with a warning. I’m socially liberal, but I don’t self flagellate. These dc politicians just grandfather in crime with all this talk of subsidized housing. Just fking let the market work the way it should. It seemed to work pretty well when all the shiny new buildings went up and Oberlin policy grads happily moved in to be legislative assistants with mom and dad footing the bill for the group house. I don’t care if we lose “classic dc” stuff like Go Go and mumbo sauce and “authenticity”. I’m from here mfka! I know what it used to be like and it was sketchy as fk. |
| All the talk on this thread is bluster. No one is going to run against Allen and people will just complain. OR...maybe the people complaining are the deep minority opinion. |
But drug related shoot-outs, homeless tents and human feces on the sidewalk are what makes our city so wonderfully vibrant you evil gentrifier! |
Time will tell if your prediction that no one will run against Allen is correct. Incumbency provides many benefits, and I am sure it is discouraging many would-be challengers. Regarding your assertion that people complaining on DCUM are in the minority, last night's Zoom meeting did not provide evidence of that. While many audience members expressed support for Allen's criminal-friendly stance, just as many expressed dismay with the councilmember's criminal-friendly stance. |
Did Allen even responded to their questions or complaints? I hope there were people letting him have it. |
He tried to rewrite recent history by portraying himself as tough on crime and passed the buck on the increasing amount of violent crime in his ward to the USAG's office, complaining that it was letting violent criminals go free. A complete abdication of responsibility. |
Yeah he's done nothing to hold the USAG accountable. And if they aren't doing the right thing then that's even more reason why we need more cops on the streets. |
