If you want school to function similar to it has in the past vax the teachers and don't tell teachers shoulda woulda coulda to them.

See the Simulcast thread - parents now complaining kids in person are still on screens and having a crap time - yeah well dead teachers don't teach DL or IPL so this is what you get.

Demand CDC change their PPE and distance guidance to all the teachers screaming "science".

Repeating this talking point ad nauseam doesn't make it any more true. "Open schools", in any rational discussion about this, still means that kids are able to enter schools and being taught in person by teachers. Only teachers unions are trying to redefine the word "open" to suit their agenda.

Uh wouldn't that be parents? Grocery stores are still considered open even if they just deliver, same thing with any store providing ONLINE services. School is online, the service is still being provided.

The only ones who have a legal leg to stand on is parents with kids who have more than 5 hours outside of gen ed in their IEP. There's no legal amount of hours children must be taught only days, which are being given online, in person, or both.

Repeating you hate teacher honestly means nothing at this point too, nor does screaming open schools cause science. Obviously the 'science' is not compelling enough because many schools in the US are online or hybrid.

No, most people would not consider a store that provides only online service to be "open".

And we don't need to talk legal standing, this is an ethics issue. Yes, it is unethical what this country, alone among all developed nations, has done to kids during this pandemic.

But yes, you are correct, many people's fear is too great to be able to think rationally about the science. Sadly, I don't think there is any level of "compellingness", short of saying there is zero risk, that would sway enough people making decisions on this.

And where did I say I hate teachers? I don't. I just think your posts read like WTU talking point memos. I know you don't speak for all teachers.

And you don't speak for all parents. Thanks.

At least she was told she could. I am 24 and have asked admin if I can return and they have ignored my emails for 2 weeks. Guess they really don't want my self contained classroom to come back in person or any for that matter. I attended a meeting for parents and ONLY THEN did I find out they had no plans for more in person classrooms for term 4....

Did you volunteer to go back when DCPS sent out the survey?

If you build it they will come.

We are at a charter school (DCB) and it seems like all teachers that wanted to, have been vaccinated. The plan is to ask these teachers to come back 1 day a week to teach 6 kids each starting in April. Some still don't want to. It's frustrating to say the least.

This. Teachers that stepped up to do in person are getting vaccinated. Hybrid plans are finalized.

Just because now they are offering vaccines, and you want it and changed your mind, they are not going to accommodate.

It’s just like the teachers on here who did not volunteer to go in person and instead stay virtual who are now complaining that they weren’t offered the vaccine. You chose virtual and you will have to wait and see if your school is going to open up more hybrid classes.

I mean it’s not hard to figure out that right now school admin are busy with hybrid opening and all the logistics of that and dealing with any issues that come up, supporting these teachers, etc.... So yes, not surprised your email hasn’t been returned. That boat has sailed and you missed it. You will just have to sit tight and wait.

Yes. I put virtual because my DOCTOR recommended it to me at the time. I'm not going to go into detail, it's none of your business.
But I always made it clear I'd come back at least for term 4.

And my school has 4 in person classes and 3 CARES, a school with 400+ kids. No plans for any other teacher to return, 1 more wouldn't make a difference.

Some of you are cuckoo, 'you choose virtual so now you can't return in person even if you want to!' 'How dare teachers not return in person!'

PS Did I mention the vaccine? I already received both doses because it's not that hard with the amount they waste.

Uh 'stepped up?' Most teachers who are back were forced.

I find it interesting that some of you would even take this stance, well since you are saying only teachers who were forced or volunteered to return get to be in person enjoy DL for the remainder of the school year and stop complaining.

Not sure where you are coming from but no one under 65, even with major medical conditions, has gotten the vaccine anywhere in the DMV. If you really got the vaccine, you are likely in the 1%. Also in DC yes it is absolutely hard to get the vaccine.

DP. That’s not true. They can’t waste vaccines that are about to expire, so if someone from the current phase misses their appointment, they give the vaccine to someone who is present and willing. I know someone who had time to spare and waited one afternoon with a book and was able to get it so they didn’t have to throw it out. This has been happening everywhere.

Oh this is rich. WTU has negotiated in bad faith from the get-go, not doing what was agreed upon and kept on moving the goalposts.

Now they and teachers all want the vaccine. Now teachers say they will consider doing IPL if they get the vaccine.

I’m sorry but why would the city take the WTU or teachers word in good faith at all? They have lost the trust of the city and parents.

How can anyone be surprised that the city is not willing to give a scarce commodity to teachers doing IPL who are just sitting at home with no risk?

from this i see there are parents who think that teachers who didn't get a letter for a vax, should do their DL in a grocery store and wait for someone not to show up for their appt so they can get a jab.

the vax system is sad no matter who is trying to get it. but i'm glad we have a system at all
