At least she was told she could. I am 24 and have asked admin if I can return and they have ignored my emails for 2 weeks. Guess they really don't want my self contained classroom to come back in person or any for that matter. I attended a meeting for parents and ONLY THEN did I find out they had no plans for more in person classrooms for term 4....

Did you volunteer to go back when DCPS sent out the survey?

This. Teachers that stepped up to do in person are getting vaccinated. Hybrid plans are finalized.

Just because now they are offering vaccines, and you want it and changed your mind, they are not going to accommodate.

It’s just like the teachers on here who did not volunteer to go in person and instead stay virtual who are now complaining that they weren’t offered the vaccine. You chose virtual and you will have to wait and see if your school is going to open up more hybrid classes.

I mean it’s not hard to figure out that right now school admin are busy with hybrid opening and all the logistics of that and dealing with any issues that come up, supporting these teachers, etc.... So yes, not surprised your email hasn’t been returned. That boat has sailed and you missed it. You will just have to sit tight and wait.

Yes. I put virtual because my DOCTOR recommended it to me at the time. I'm not going to go into detail, it's none of your business.
But I always made it clear I'd come back at least for term 4.

And my school has 4 in person classes and 3 CARES, a school with 400+ kids. No plans for any other teacher to return, 1 more wouldn't make a difference.

Some of you are cuckoo, 'you choose virtual so now you can't return in person even if you want to!' 'How dare teachers not return in person!'

PS Did I mention the vaccine? I already received both doses because it's not that hard with the amount they waste.

Not sure where you are coming from but no one under 65, even with major medical conditions, has gotten the vaccine anywhere in the DMV. If you really got the vaccine, you are likely in the 1%. Also in DC yes it is absolutely hard to get the vaccine.

That isn't true at all. I've gotten both doses (though I do have a high-risk medical condition) because I heard about unused shots that were otherwise going to be thrown out. I know lots of health care workers and teachers who have gotten both shots, too.

Yeah, I know dozens of people who have, including myself.
Health care workers
Health care admins
Therapists
Teachers
Ambulance workers
People who have been in vaccine trials (I know 3)
Dentists and dental office staff

No teacher that is not back in school deserves a vaccine! Vaccinate Home Depot, Walmart, grocery store employees first! They have been there keeping us fed, making sure we can fix everything that broke for a year. And you never even hear from them.
I am appalled by teachers in some districts!

Uh ok, yes, these people are actually eligible. But saying it's easy to get a shot by simply waiting around somewhere for wasted shots is not true nor should it be anyone's plan.

What do you mean you don't hear from them? Do you talk to them when you see them in stores? I hear from them then. Are you friends with any of them? I am - they are moms and dads in our school. And I I hear from them.

Its so clear who uses DCUM based on schools discussed and the lifestyles talked about.

DCUM is not the reality of DC

The point is that lots of people under 65 have had the vaccine. I disagree with the PP who implied its easy to get if you want it, but the point is that more and more parents are vaccinated in DC, which is supporting the drop in transmission.

There is a woman I know how is raging at her son's charter Kinder teacher not coming to the classroom. Her kid is going to be in the class, there will be two in person aids.

She's pissed because her son's teacher isn't going to be back. She has no idea if the teacher is vaccinated, is barred from getting the vax for medical reasons, has someone at home high risk but she is going to be mad.

She's has moaned since March 14 about being home, her husband apparently can't do anything but shuttle the kid to the daycare her son does DL in.

It is also ironic she didn't like her IB school but they have taken the full load of Kinder kids. If she stuck with IB none of this would be an issue for her.

For teachers, though, that is true: DCPS was running huge vaccination clinics for teachers, and they had enough extra doses that teachers who hadn't registered were able to just walk up and get one.

I don’t want to hear those complaining about DL to say a dang thing if you think teachers shouldn’t be vaccinated.

I just want both of my children to have in person. Period.
