White’s Ferry

This is super interesting - White's Ferry is owned by the "Brown family" while another Brown family are the trustees of the Rockland Farm Land Trust.

Is this some sort of inter-family squabble? It can't be a coincidence.

They want the ferry shut down. It's not about the money. The folks who own Rockland are easily worth 9-figures.

I don't know how well a wedding venue is doing these days even in covid denier country. Might be last gasp desperate by next generation to keep the business alive.

A modest, two-lane bridge at the site would go a long way in addressing the need for MD and VA information tech / biotech workers to commute. Yes it would not be as effective as an 8-lane superhighway, but given the wealthy landowners on both sides (including a certain Dan Snyder), that won't happen. That has been debated to death for decades. All that would be needed is to condemn a small sliver of land on the Virginia side by eminent domain. Advertise the contract tomorrow and have the bridge ready by the end of 2021.

Not likely. Rockland VA has been fighting the expansion of I-15 for years. They are winning the fight there too. Money buys power.

Their property is 600 acres. I don’t think the wedding venue portion of the property is anywhere near the ferry road.

The entire Brown family are big on anti-development in Loudoun County. The plaintiff who died last year was on the Loudoun County board of supervisors and pushed a lot of anti-development views, particularly near her family’s land.

The ferry should be paying rent/users fee to the farm. Why should they get to use the property for free when they are making money. They should pay a flat fee or per car.

Was looking at rockland for a wedding venue and will absolutely not consider it now.
