Off-Campus Apartments Leases especially College Park

OP, I live in a Division I college town. Read the terms of the lease.

The lease is a legal document.

My experience in a college town is that you won't get much flexibility on payment terms once you've signed the lease.

You may be able to sublet the apartment but again you need to read the terms of the lease.

there is nothing preventing your kid from living in his apartment now, and for the rest of your lease term. When he doesn't use it by choice, it's still an obligation. How is this not obvious?

While I appreciate that a contract is a contract, big companies are not paying their rents, so why should the little people?

Not only are big companies not paying rents, they are getting 0% interest rate loans so that they can pay off their other debts and avoid default. And small companies are flat out getting free money to keep their businesses going.

But as soon as there is any individual who pays taxes for 40+ years asking for some help during a global pandemic, all the cat ladies on DCUM lose their minds.

Bizarre how his absurd stereotypes are plastered throughout his posts. No wonder his poor child wanted to rent an apartment instead of live home. The kids would probably pay double the rent to be there now.

I think he is correct that a lot of DCUM posters live unsatisfied lives with terrible loveless marriages and then virulently attack the OP, who is only trying to find a way make do during a global pandemic.

Seriously! It is weird how if someone disagrees with you they are suddenly a cat lady or have a bad marriage. WTF?

I think the post is about how cat ladies are calling the OP greedy for...asking for relief during a global pandemic?
It's gross behavior by the aforementioned 'cat ladies'.

You are super weird.

PP Asking for relief for individuals during a national emergency after paying 40%+ taxes for 40 years is super weird, in America.

No, it’s the calling others “cat ladies” if they disagree with you or speculating that they have terrible marriages just because they disagree with you that is weird. Normal people don’t do that.

If you can afford tuition, an apartment, and a car at UMD you are not working class by any means

A lot of students take out loans to pay tuition and living expenses. UMD doesn't guarantee housing for 4 years so students have to take out loans to live in expensive off-campus private apartments

Who's talking about a car?

Normal people don't try to shame OP as being 'greedy' because she only asked how other parents are managing during a pandemic. Cat ladies do try to shame, though.

Cat lady is such a stupid, sexist insult.

A crash course in how the real world works can smack you in the face when you least expect it. *shrug*

OP, most students who rented apartments in my college town are staying through their leases.

OP, generally you have a lot more flexibility with student housing than leasing offsite. Universities will generally work with the parent if student has health issues or something. A landlord lives by the lease and operates a business.
