I have occasionally slept with my car keys and garage door opener by my bed so I could open the door and set off my car alarm.
I do kind of wish I had a gun right now.

You cannot protect yourself from criminals with a gun. Period. Stop falling for the gun lobby BS. You already have much more effective improvised weapons at your disposal. Use them. A baseball bat or flashlight is far more effective.

Why can't you defend yourself with a gun? I don't have a gun and don't know how to even fire one,but I'd rather shoot someone than hit them with a bat.

I don’t need a gun, and I’d never touch one. I can reason and talk my way out of a confrontation. And if I couldn’t, I’d use my keys, some hairspray, or a bat. All are more effective than a gun. Even the police officers on this thread have said that guns are ineffective.

Do you not watch the news? People are shooting at whoever happens to be between them and their intended target. They have no feelings for other human beings. You can't talk your way out of a confrontation with someone who's already convinced themselves that you are not a real person to them.
