And you know that for sure?

You’ve surveyed all the parents and you know their professions?

Ridiculous.

Yes, your attitude is significantly ridiculous. Agree!

We know most of the parents. Other people have opinions that are different than yours and that’s ok.

And some of us can’t telework and are essential and that’s ok, too. See how that works?

Certainly. Let’s endanger all of our children for you. I cannot telework, and will be unable to,generate any income til this is done. But let’s let our kids suffer because your employer is unable to support your family needs adequately.

Are you serious?!

I’m a nurse.

Ok. I see. Please get some rest. We are not at cross purposes, mostly trying to not become your patients. Or our kids. I’m sorry you don’t have the right supports from employers or community. I wish there was an easier way and so much was not being asked of you or your family.

Do you realize how condescending and rude this post is?

So is every post from someone screaming about the need for places being open. There’s no understanding of other parents concerns.

It’s condescending and rude for people to point out that they have no option but to work during this?!

Some of you people are really something else.

I’ve been keeping my kid home but I feel like sending her just to spite the crazy anti daycare people here.

They're always anti-daycare, and now this crisis is making them feel more empowered.

Preschool worker here. The blatent disregard for the safety of the childcare workers on here makes me sad. We don’t get to walk around in masks, gloves, and gowns and the exposure to bodily fluids is constant and normally not an issue. Your children will likely not show symptoms if infected, but will be highly contagious. The virus could easily spread to each family and to our families. I work with 1 year olds, and we are closed right now, but thinking of opening. I don’t know how to safely interact with a class of toddlers right now. There is no such thing as social distancing in our classroom and any attempt would be confusing and detrimental to their social/emotional development. There will soon come a time to safely re open, but it’s not yet. There is more to learn about transmission and testing and treatment before this can be done safely. Be patient.

This is paranoid disordered thinking.

I understand that, but healthcare workers and other essential people have no choice.

Healthcare workers have protective gear
Many grocery workers have protective gear, some are even putting up plexiglass screens
Bus drivers have protective guards and social distancing now
Office workers have social distancing
What protection is there for childcare workers from germs?

Agree that working in a preschool/daycare safely is difficult if not impossible. If the virus is in their stool they will be contagious for a while. But there's no need for these comparisons. Healthcare workers are facing shortages of protective gear and are the most exposed especially if they are treating COVID-19 cases. Plus it's not like COVID-19 is the only infectious disease out there and the healthcare system has to treat all kinds of things. Grocery workers are lower on the totem pole for protective gear than health care wokers and in some cases their employers prohibit them from wearing protective gear like gloves and masks. Honestly preschools and daycares need to close (teachers who are willing could serve as nannies for essential workers where possible) or be repurposed for essential workers only.

The point I was making is that healthcare workers and others have to have childcare available. Otherwise there's no one to provide food for people or take care of patients.

I agree, but I’m not sure group childcare is the answer to that right now.

So then what’s the answer? And don’t say relatives because that’s usually older people who are at risk.

DP. The answer is whatever works for each family. That can be a non-essential spouse, non-elderly relative (not all grandparents are over 60), nanny or yes, if a daycare is open and that's the only option, better for the child to be safe there and the essential worker to work than the alternative.

There is a link on the Virginia DSS website to email if you are an essential worker and need childcare.
Closed centers should not be opening back up when cases are doubling every 2 days
